Best bikini for apple shape

Helpppppp! I have 4 weeks until my holiday and I can’t find any swimwear. I’ve gained a little weight and feel so self conscious in everything I try. Ideally I’d like a bikini, so I thought I’d try high waisted bottoms as I’d heard they’re good for concealing a tummy - but no! Just no! I may as well have worn a flashing neon sign saying “look at my wobbly bits!” So help me please - which style of swimwear would be best for hiding my tummy a little bit?!

Depends on so much.

What size are you? Do you have slim legs/hips/bum? How flat is your stomach? curved? really curved? Do you go in under your boobs? hiw big are they? are you broad backed/shouldered?

Have you considered a tankini or a swimsuit?

Im an inverted triangle and find it difficult to get bikini bottoms to stay up but i like the ones with tie sides do i can adjust them. I usually size up.

I've completely rethought beachwear/swimwear in the last couple of years.

After seeing hundreds of women of all shapes, ages and sizes over the years, I honestly think that bikinis are way more flattering than swimsuits, and a well-fitting bikini is more flattering than a tankini.

I personally would ditch the idea of hiding anything, and just pick something that you love and that fits well. You can't hide anything in swimwear - you'll be the same shape, just with a bit of lycra on it.

The tankini/highwaisted/shorts styles actually suit petite, slim figures much more, imo.

To be honest a bikini isn't the best thing for hiding things. You've either got to decide you don't mind showing things or go for a swimsuit / tankini.
I would have said the high waisted bottoms, but you say you've tried them and they don't work..

I'm a size 16/18 apple. I started wearing bikinis 5 years ago as I was sick of being so hot in a swimsuit abroad and tankinis rolled up. I wear a size 38g bikini top with good support (not cheap tho) and size 14 bottoms. I like the ones with a roll top. I can sunbathe with it folded down below my belly button but when I get up I have them higher. I also saw a younger girl on holiday with a bikini top with a deep fringe which touched the top of her bikini bottoms which looked quite nice.

I buy Freya bikinis.

My DD wanted a bikini last year. Awkwardly shaped at age 12 - awaiting growth spurts - I found a high neck bikini top suited her. Perhaps it focuses the eye upwards.

I've always had fleshy thighs and found high leg bikini bottoms more flattering than boy shorts or high waisted bottoms. Again, the slanted edge takes the eye away from the areas I don't want accentuated. I find the same to be true with slanted cap sleeves on the tops of my arms.

It appears to be difficult to get high leg bikini bottoms these days. They're all hipster (shudder), ruched with dangly bits, boy shorts or high waists. But it is worth the hunt.

Another apple and another Freya bikini buyer- not cheap ( from Next or Figleaves) but you can order your bra size in a balcony type top and have classic / high leg bottoms which I think work.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 19/06/2018 21:46

Oh yes, Freya bikinis are fantastic. They're the only ones that really fit me properly and give me a good shape in a bikini style.

Agree bikini much more flattering than a swimsuit! I think you just have to embrace it!

I was recently away and have put loads of weight on, I felt quite self conscious but one day wore a swimsuit- it was awful, laid on a lounger encased in red nylon was so hot and uncomfortable!
The main problem with my bikini was the pain in the back of my neck from the weight of my super heavy norks in my halter neck! I've bought 2 new bra style tops!

I did vow not to be in that position again so have got back in the gym and started 5:2 again so some good has come out of it!

Go and enjoy your holiday!

Thank you everyone! I’m a 12 at the minute and 5’4” with short legs and a short body! The problem is I’m really petite - my frame is tiny! I’ve got really narrow shoulders and hips, so putting the tiniest bit of weight on just makes me look round - I genuinely do carry it all around my stomach area! I really don’t want to wear a swimsuit or a tankini, I’m only 25 and I’ve spent most of my life hiding my body and I really want to be done with that! I’ll have a look at Freya and see how that goes! I’ve tried some in Debenhams (the Floozie range) because I love the frilled bottoms but they just seem to sit under my stomach!

Freya bikinis are awesome. They actually feel like I’m wearing a proper bra and the bottoms cover most of my wobbly tummy!

userabcname · 20/06/2018 18:55

I used to wear board shorts and a bikini top on the beach. I find the shorts comfier and provide more coverage of tummy, while bikini top stops me feeling frumpy. Doubt I'd wear the same now - serious mum tum and a gazillion stretchmarks have put paid to that!

BusterGonad · 20/06/2018 19:14

Pour Moi do some lovely styles and imo great quality, I did used to wear Freya but this year I found the styles a bit boring.

Ifonlyus · 21/06/2018 08:58

What is the sizing like on Freya bottoms? If I wear a 14 in regular underwear, will the 14 bottoms fit me? With chain store bikinis, I find I size up to a 16 so bits aren't digging into me as there is less give than regular pants have.

PrimalLass · 21/06/2018 09:05

A large is around a 14 I would say.
