Work from home - descending into scruffiness

Juststopit · 17/06/2018 22:25

My latest job is out with customers 1 day a week and working from home 4 days. I have an extensive work wardrobe but can feel myself getting more and more scruffy on the days I work from home :(. I m tending to chose jeans and a hoodie ( old one usually) and feel such a mess, it's starting to get me down.
What could I wear! I walk the dogs for an hour at lunchtime and I'm going to invest in some walking boots and trainers for that, but what can I wear and where should I be looking for inspiration. I m 45 and a size 12.

I'm the same. One day in the office, four from home. I do the school run in the morning so at least I have to get dressed but yes, jeans and a sweatshirt for me too.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 17/06/2018 22:47

I love that part of my job. If it rains on the school run I can dry off and put my pj on for a few hours. Probably not the suggestion you were searching for!

BackforGood · 17/06/2018 22:54

Same as Shouldwwestay here. I LOVE te fact that on my work from home days / hours, I can just fling on any old comfy thing - far more comfy than jeans Grin

Sorry, no help to you, but just what I consider a bonus one of many of the working form home.

You sound smart compared to my work from home outfits. I don't leave the house at all when I work from home so tend to wear work out clothes Blush

ilovecherries · 18/06/2018 19:20

I’m self employed so Home based all the time, but can end up doing a lot of video calls. I tend to wear harems or ‘nice but comfy’ trousers then decent t shirts, jumpers, silk tops with cardis etc on top. Necklace, earrings, mascara and lipstick. Always wear trainers because of PF.

LittleMissedTheSunshine · 18/06/2018 19:42

I work from home and have been known to put a smart blouse on for video calls, leaving pyjama bottoms intact.

I can't be the only one surely?

GrainneWail · 18/06/2018 19:55

I just avoid video conferencing Wink

PatchworkGirl · 18/06/2018 20:23

I work from home and have been known to just change into fresh pyjamas if I don't need to go out in the morning. Otherwise skirts or loose / harem trousers and tops. Not necessarily matching. It's all about the comfort for me too - sorry, not much help!

Following with interest. I work from someone else's home and the dress code is beyond relaxed! There would be no issue in me turning up in PJ's. However, we are sometimes surprised by a client turning up and I hate speaking to them in scruffy jeans and old top. I also cycle there and back so after some good ideas.

travailtotravel · 18/06/2018 20:35

I see your jeans and lower you to scraggly leggings and those old mis shapened t-shirts with the mysterious holes in the front.
And flip flops I got free on the front of a magazine,

Hope you feel better now. On office days, the world is very different!!

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 18/06/2018 23:28

However, we are sometimes surprised by a client turning up you need some sort of Velcro smart uniform by the door which you can throw on as you open the door.

Fortunately only voice, no video so yes I do those in pj with a blanket around me sometimes to snuggle up. Still not sure this is helping Juststopit I think the key is to wear something comfortable and puts you in a good frame of mind.

GrainneWail · 18/06/2018 23:49

Speaking of a good frame of mind, I remember once having to send a shitfest email on a day I was working from home. I put on a my favourite pair of heels and sat at my kitchen table in my pjs writing it.

PamsterWheel · 19/06/2018 09:40

I'd like some advice on this. Gone from bad to worse.

I appreciate that sometimes it's nice, cathartic even, to have a slobby day wearing pjs or old tracky bottoms but I literally put in no effort at all now.

Traditional work clothes I had are just too formal (suits). If I go out socially I always dress up. All my casual clothes are knackered.

Where to start and more importantly lyrics how. Totally lost my way and think what's the point?

PamsterWheel · 19/06/2018 09:42

Currently still in dressing gown FFS

PurpleWithRed · 19/06/2018 09:48

even DH, who wears a uniform ironed and starched to military standards on patient-facing days, has been caught in PJ bottoms and a nasty old t-shirt when working from home. I thought it was one of the perks?
