Would a tailor be able to take this in?

Apologies for being completely clueless about this.

Was hoping to wear this dress for a wedding, ordered the 10 but apparently you have to be super flat chested to wear it as the zip abruptly stops at my boobs Grin Otherwise, the waist fits just about right, maybe could do with being an inch or two bigger, given the free buffet on offer at said wedding.

I really like the dress and am far too emotionally attached haven't found anything else that I like the look of, so I was wondering if it'd be crazy to order the 16 and see if I could get the waist taken in?

Basically I'd be looking to get it dropped around 2 sizes. I have no experience with tailoring clothes so I'm not sure if this is too much to ask, or if the print/style of the dress makes it impossible. The pattern doesn't currently match at the seams, if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance!

My wedding dress fitter told me that clothes can typically be taken in two dress sizes maximum, before they lose their overall shape. So hopefully the right dressmaker could do that for you.

The link posted by 12685mrrr is a fake site.

OP, two sizes is doable but it depends on your proportions, for example if you're not broad in the shoulders it may be very difficult. Best to just order and take it to a tailor and get it priced out, it may be quite expensive ultimately.

Thanks both! I've ordered the dress and will see how things go from there. Fingers crossed it works out.

I'm a dressmaker and frequently alter clothes, and I don't think it's outrageous to have the waist of this dress taken in, but of course it depends how much needs to be removed.

It has princess seams, by the looks if it, so there's at least 6, if not 8, places where a small amount could be shaved off. Centre back, either side of the zip, the side seams (if they exist) and front and back princess seams. If you take a centimetre off each of those places, you're going down at least two dress sizes.

I'd be most anxious myself about ensuring there are no "bumps" as a result of reducing the waist size, and blending the new seam into the existing seams at the bust and hips. You may find you need to lose a little at the hip to allow the dressmaker to graduate the new waist seam down smoothly and evenly, but it would be minimal, maybe an inch or so total. It's a tough call without seeing you in the dress, but I'd say it was definitely possible.
