Bra measuring for DD, where to take her?

DD, 13 is ready for some new bras, took her to M&S last time as it was just convenient, however she's outgrown her first bras & was wondering where else I could take her to be measured as M&S doesn't seem popular/accurate! We have Meadowhall that wouldn't be too far of a drive away.

Do it yourself at home? Boob or bust website is your friend!

Clayhead · 16/06/2018 17:56

I did my dd at home but have also taken her to Bravissimo who were great with her. She's 17 now and has stayed a 28 band but her cup size has changed.

Lifeaback · 16/06/2018 17:59

I have always found Victoria’s Secret to be really accurate for measuring, and the staff are really friendly. Plus their younger brand ‘pink’ is cool to her age group

I’m sure someone will be along soon to say it’s not age appropriate but in terms of accuracy I’ve always found them great

id measure at home using the boob or bust method, and then carry on getting bras from wherever. I wouldnt trust any store would measure correctly except Bravissimo

legolimb · 16/06/2018 18:30

I would measure her yourself - show her how the system works too for the future.

My favourite place to buy bras is Debenhams as they have a good selection of brands. The changing room staff seem quite helpful and I have seen them assisting customers with sizings and fit.

I did struggle on a recent visit though to get any bras which fitted me well in my size so went in to Boux Avenue. Theirs were perfect.

Branleuse · 16/06/2018 18:42

I love debenhams bras too. They have a fantastic range of really nice ones in their own brand. I do find them sized a bit erratically though, so i nearly always have to try on a few sizes

Octopeppa · 17/06/2018 11:24

Another vote for Debenhams.

SorrelForbes · 17/06/2018 12:05

Bravissimo is your best bet to get an accurate fitting. Some fitters at Debenhams, HoF and JL are OK too but it can be a bit hit and miss. Avoid Victoria Secrets (their measuring is really bonkers!). Boux Avenue isn't great either.

ATailofTwoKitties · 17/06/2018 12:10

We like Debenhams too for the huge range of styles, though I agree the sizing is a bit random -- DD and I have been known to swap bras we've taken to try on, despite being about three sizes different.

ATailofTwoKitties · 17/06/2018 12:11

I have to say that all trained bra fitters seem to be of the 'Of course it fits, breathing is for wimps' persuasion.

Branleuse · 17/06/2018 14:11

Surely noones forcing you to buy a bra you cant breathe in?
I know my BoB size, but id have no problem saying to a fitter, "i think id like to try this one in a 32 band and see if thats more comfortable" if necessary.

youvegottobekidding · 17/06/2018 14:22

Thank you all, will probably try Debenhams first then. I may actually get myself measured while I'm there, as I did measure myself last time (about a year ago) & I turned out to be 3 cups sizes smaller than what I was wearing. But I still seem to not fill my cups iukwim, so I'm not entirely convinced I'm wearing the correct size myself, however I do have 'deflated' boobs as I call them, not full ones 😂 But I'm picky as well with bras, it takes me a while to get use to one, or to feel comfy, I like it to feel like I'm not wearing one, I tried a couple from M&S last year & the band got on my nerves, the only one I can get on with are a particular one from Next.

I cant get on with m&s bras even in the correct size or the sizes around it .
They seem to use really hard thick underwires that maybe arent the right shape for me but ive never found a comfortable one

Scabetty · 17/06/2018 16:45

Debenhams were excellent for dd 17 yo.

Octopeppa · 18/06/2018 15:10

It's so annoying to ask to be measured at M&S, only to be told primly that you must make an appointment and the earliest is in 3 hours when you will have gone home.

FinallyHere · 18/06/2018 15:17

If you can get to one of the branches of https://www.rigbyandpeller.com/UK, I would really encourage you to do so. It really was life changing for me. Just seeing the labels on the rows and rows of drawers, to get some idea of their range of sizes, gave me hope, the absence of any cold tape measures, with its sentence of a size, instead someone brings a perfectly formed range of things that will fit. Bliss.

KirstenRaymonde · 18/06/2018 15:18

Use the Boob or Bust calculator at home first. I wouldn’t trust any of the department stores, they’re always too big in the band and too small in the cup.

KatharinaRosalie · 18/06/2018 15:23

At M&S you would be declared either 32B or 36AA, no matter what your actual size is, and if you disagree, told you have weird boobs and no bra will ever fit you.
