Highlights reacting with softened water

Does anyone else suffer with this. My hair is a dull shade of khaki and hairdresser is blaming our newly installed water softener. He suggested an occasional wash with Fairy liquid!

I cant see softened water can do this, what were the highlights like in the first place?
You could try washing your hair with purple shampoo, it should lighten them

It's hard water that normally affects highlights. Purple shampoo takes out brassiness/Orange tones

Apparently pink toners help take our green shades

ClaudiaNaughton · 17/06/2018 11:46

The highlights were light. Same hairdresser for years and they’ve always been fine. I’ve never come across pink toner but I’ll investigate that. Can certainly try purple but thought that might darken it more.

If the purple toner has blue shades then that can cause the green. You need red tones to neutralise green. I have heard of tomato ketchup being used too!

Tomato ketchup Shock

Google it. I think there are YouTube videos about it

I put ketchup on my highlighted hair after swimming in a chlorinated pool in summer and it gets rid of the greenish tones. Just bung it on, leave for 10 minutes and wash out.
