Just that really. Looking for something semi-casual fora night out that I can wear with flats. Any alternatives out there?

Thanks Iwanka.
I have quite broad (swimmers) shoulders so have to avoid any cap or ruffles around the shoulders. Love a shirt dress though.

I love it. You sound like you’ve a lovely height and figure.
The high neck might feel very hot in this weather but it might feel great. What material is it?

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 11/06/2018 22:02

I like the neckline and sleeves, but generally I'm not a huge fan.

The model looks great though. Her colouring and short hair make it look as good as it's likely to. Any fussy hair/earrings/any clutter at all wouldn't work.

VioletCharlotte · 11/06/2018 22:03

SilkFred have lots of nice dresses. Here's a few that I like.

Oooh it comes in petite! I might have a look myself!!
I also adore the black dress! But for summer I like dress number one.
I do have huge shoulders and know that none of those SilkFred dresses would work on me, although they’re pretty.

clairewiththehair · 11/06/2018 22:07

You always have the option to send it back if you don't like it.

IwankaTramp · 11/06/2018 22:16

BLACK DRESS looks great 👍🏻

Mango have some great shirt dresses.

Another option depending on how casual you can get away with is a dungaree dress. Again might not be your thing.

saltedliquorice · 11/06/2018 22:21

You sound like you have a very good figure and could wear almost anything OP I am envious. If you are fair skinned I can’t imagine the colours of either of those dresses being the most flattering on you. I know what colours I suit as I had my colours done years ago. If you are really fair skinned do you suit pale pastel colours pale blue, pale pink colours or more bright colours I.e bright greens, coral/red brighter cornflower blue etc best? Also how old are you I am sure between us we can come up with something fabulous for you within and probably under budget.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 11/06/2018 22:21

I think if you're going out for dinner then most of your time will be spent sitting down and not showing much of the dress so people will only see the top half, which is fairly uninteresting.

I agree with a pp, the first dress has to be styled in quite a minimalist way. Short hair or hair up would work with the high neck. I think the overall look of it is summery day dress, especially without heels.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 11/06/2018 22:23

Prefer the black one. That would look great with accessories for a night out or dressed down for day.

ultrababy · 11/06/2018 22:36

Oh yes I forgot my age. I'm 42.
I normally wear my hair up and very minimal jewellery. I do normally wear coral and bright colours, that's why I thought pastels would make a nice change. Could be I've never suited them and that's why never bought that colour before 😳

It looks more like a day dress than an evening dress to me. For an evening out like you describe, I’d be in smart jeans or trousers.

Grasslands · 11/06/2018 22:44

looks like a carers uniform...especially with those shoes.

mcqueencar · 11/06/2018 23:14

I’m similar to you in that I always dress a bit casual but I don’t think that particular dress looks great on the model. Have you looked at Free People?

Im obsessed with this one

saltedliquorice · 12/06/2018 07:22

Sorry OP I am much heavier than you and 52 so will likely be on a different page fashion ideas wise. I think the black dress looks like it will be more versatile.
Try both and see what you think or maybe try plain Navy instead of black.
I am very fair blue eyes, hair is ever so slightly auburn in certain lights and I still have some freckles 😂. I suit bright spring colours corals, cornflower blue, bright green, yellow, orange/red, purple, navy cream or ivory etc.
Whereas I look dreadful and ill in pale pastel colours baby pink, baby blue, white, black, bluey/reds etc. Hope this helps colourwise.

ferrier · 12/06/2018 07:38

To me it looks frumpy and not worth the price. Not really an evening going out dress either. More something for a day out shopping.

ultrababy · 12/06/2018 07:51

Thanks everyone. I have ordered it but will probably send it back. I'm going to try and find a navy version of the black dress as I prefer navy.

Just see how it looks and feels on you when it arrives. To me it looks young and cool and interesting! I don’t really like flowery flouncy type dresses though as they don’t suit me personally.

Raven88 · 12/06/2018 08:03

I like the dress and think it sounds fine for a night out. Considering your size and height. I think it will look really good on you.

ultrababy · 12/06/2018 09:16

I think I was going for laid back and cool. Just realised there's a fine line between that and duvet cover 😀

Elledorado · 12/06/2018 10:50

Love the black allsaints dress OP.

AnotherRoadsideAttraction · 13/06/2018 20:31

Agree re. the black dress - it's lovely and manages to be classy-yet-casually stylish.

ultrababy · 14/06/2018 21:20

It didn't suit me. It's going back. Neckline was nice. Just the colouring didn't suit me ☹️
