Inspired by how to look expensive in the summer - how to look at least ok (but still be comfy) when heavily pregnant in the summer!

Love the aforementioned thread, but looking for tips for managing the double whammy of latter stages of pregnancy and hot weather. Of course one gets bigger all over, many things seem to cling in an unflattering way etc. Have found that many summer maternitydresses are essentially transparent so have invested in some giant skin coloured granny pants to at least avoid awful wrong colour/shape/size pants being seen through dress! The other aspect is that while wanting to look good one wants more than usual to be comfy. Don't want to spend much as only a few weeks left. I think the general principles from the other thread of drapy things, no bra straps on show etc still apply but anyone got any genius pregnancy hacks?

I must be asking the impossible if even the S&B ladies can't answer!

I was pregnant last summer, and wore flowy dresses with nice sandals. Bought myself some maternity Chino shorts. Gave myself a pedicure so my feet were nice. Did my hair and make up so I felt glam.

MamamamaT · 10/06/2018 14:29

Yeah I think flowy dresses are the way forward! Going to get myself a couple of beauty treatments which should help, pedicure's a good idea. Looking forward to not feeling like a whale anymore though!

Currently fat and 5 months pregnant to boot. Have £0 (apart from savings that I don't want to touch) for new clothes. Currently wearing knee length dresses with leggings, feel grotesque.

Last time I was pregnant in summer in seem to remember wearing linen trousers and nice tops. Can find the nice tops but not the trousers.

Really lacking in inspiration. The other day I saw a pregnant woman in a bodycon dress, she looked AMAZING. I would look like jelly.

MamamamaT · 10/06/2018 15:15

Good God I can't imagine a pregnant woman looking good in bodycon! I was slim most of the way through, couldn't say that anymore but have only put in a normal amount of weight but no way in hell would I wear bodycon! I have just dug a dress out of the wardrobe that I actually like myself in which is a totally novelty atm. I think it's just finding those few things that you actually feel decent in.

I invested in an Isabella Oliver ruched tank style dress when I was pregnant and I wore it to death and also wore it post partum as it continued to fit for quite a while - it stretched but also contracted if you see what I mean. Not sure if they still do them. Or eBay. It was one of the best things I ever bought.

I’m 6 months pregnant got some maxi and midi loose dresses , on cooler days being wearing black kimono style cardigan over it and saltwater sandals or trainers , tube skirts and loose t shirts ,

MamamamaT · 10/06/2018 16:48

Thanks all Grin Isabella Oliver definitely has some gorgeous stuff, ebaying it is a good call.

I sold mine on eBay afterwards - they retain their value very well if I recall rightly - so even buying new, if you factor in the resale, can be justified somewhat.

I'm 32 weeks and have been wearing ruched bodycon dresses throughout (to work), and at the weekends skinny jeans with a loose top, or more lately a breton maxi dress as the jeans are getting uncomfortable. I don't know about looking expensive, but what I've tried to do is buy just a few things that suit me and go with other things, rather than loads of cheap printed dresses and stuff that aren't what I would normally wear. Also, accessories are important, so I think it helps to have a good bag, nice-looking supportive shoes, a good hat and remembering to wear jewellery.

I also agree with having nice painted toenails, but for me it's a matter of persuading my DH to do them for me...! So they are bare at the moment.

It's been a few years since I was last pregnant, but I was heavily pregnant in summer and bought Topshop maternity shorts and a few Topshop maternity vest tops in various colours then just made sure I wore nice sandals, a bit of jewellery etc.
