Cellulite - can anything fix it?

Just been away in my fugly sandals and swim a lot. I also looked at a lot of bodies. Mine in horror. I saw someone looking chubby in her cossie in the mirror, then realised it was me! And the cellulite. Mine looks awful even with tan. Is there any way to sort it out? I crave smooth limbs

Isn't cellulite just fat? (Sorry, I don't really know, but that's what I've always thought!)

cheapskatemum · 09/06/2018 19:46

I thought it was more to do with diet (ie what you eat, rather than going on a diet) as slim women also get cellulite.

LoniceraJaponica · 09/06/2018 19:49

In a word, no. I sm slim, and have never been overweight in my life. I run, cycle do HIIT and pilates, but still have cellulite.

CherryBlossom23 · 09/06/2018 19:51

You can't get rid of it completely but some things can help diminish the appearance. Dry body brushing before your shower helps the lymphatic system to break down the fat deposits that cause cellulite and exercises that tone your legs (esp lifting weights/body weight exercises) will help to tighten up the skin. I think fake tan can also help hide it.
Don't feel bad though, I am a size 8 with cellulite. Its not a fat thing! Every single woman has some, I promise.

SirVixofVixHall · 09/06/2018 19:53

Not as simple as just fat. I had it when I was really thin.

IHaveBrilloHair · 09/06/2018 19:53

No.
I am a size 8 but I have cellulite on my thighs.

Chwaraeteg · 09/06/2018 19:56

There was a brief period of my life when I didn't have cellulite. It was when I was swimming 3 times a week, doing around 60 lengths of breaststroke per session (this was on top of lots of other exercise - cycling, walking, yoga and cheerleading - but it was the swimming that made the difference).

There was a programme on ch4 a few months ago about debunking beauty product claims etc, they did a small sample group and found dry body brushing had the best results after a month. The presenter was Cheri/Cherry something - it was quite interesting!

Flexoset · 09/06/2018 20:03

I always used to believe that cellulite was caused by toxins, poor circulation/drainage, etc, because that's what the women's magazines told me.

Then I saw that my newborn daughter had noticeable cellulite.

Ha just checked it was Cherry Healey on the beeb The Truth About Looking Good, it might be on iplayer

I’ve had the best success with dry skin brushing followed by specialist massage oil. I use Garnier Anti-Cellulite oil, but I’ve noticed that it is out of stock (discontinued?).
Google dry skin brushing, you should brush towards the heart, but can use circular brushing on the cellulite, then shower, then massage in the oil. The brushing is not pleasant to start with, as the brush needs to be quite harsh, but you do get used to it. You also have to do it religiously to keep the results.
Also it’s important to drink lots of water as the brushing draws out toxins and they need to be flushed away.

TantricTwist · 09/06/2018 20:10

Dry body brushing helps, as does cutting down on sugar and do not drink fizzy drinks like coke etc. Drink water.

Griefbacon · 09/06/2018 20:11

Thanks all - I could handle body brushing and oils as I do use lotions anyway and it looks bloody awful

That bbc show that found body brushing the best had drs on there measuring the fat thickness via ultrasound, they concluded it actually pushes fat back under the skin rather than break it down or stimulate lymphatic flow.

We’d all look like elephants if our lymphatic system didn’t work properly wouldn’t we.

I’ve been doing it nightly for about two weeks and I can see a difference.

neveradullmoment99 · 10/06/2018 00:38

Body brushing helped mine too😁

pandorawithtreaclecolouredhair · 10/06/2018 09:47

I have found that daily dry body brushing seems to help; also, I use Clarins Bodyfit lotion, and it seems to improve skin appearance.
I am another one who is not overweight; I eat healthily and exercise, but still have cellulite on the backs of my thighs, also on inner thighs/ knees.
A spray tan for summer holidays improves its appearance for wearing shorts, etc.

cheapskatemum · 10/06/2018 12:12

Thanks for confirming, TantricTwist, I thought fizzy drinks were implicated, but not sure enough to post it! I don't drink fizzy drinks and try to use naturally sweet foods (eg dates, pears, prunes) rather than sugar to sweeten food.

Griefbacon · 10/06/2018 20:54

What brush would you say I need? Long handle or round one? And any oils which won’t break the bank?

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 10/06/2018 21:06

I’m using a £5 round brush from boots.

Griefbacon · 11/06/2018 20:34

Thanks. Shall invest and get scrubbing
