Purple shampoo

I have highlighted blonde hair and my hair dresser advised me to get some purple shampoo to prevent it going brassy. I’ve used the L’Oreal expert series and it was ok but does anyone have any other recommendations please?

Balmain Illuminating White Pearl Shampoo is really good for getting rid of yellow tones. They do a purple toner spray as well.

Over the years I've used ProVoke, L'Oreal, Lush and Bleach London, and the Bleach London stuff is the best imho. ProVoke is good value but the effect wasn't as good and it didn't lather as well. I like a good lather I do.

I assume they all have sulphates in. Might look into the violet stuff actually as I'm thinking of moving to sulphate free shampoo and that's probably pointless with occasional purple shampoo use.

pickled

I checked my bottle

It contains

Laureth sulfate

Aridane · 09/06/2018 22:21

Sorry - don’t know what happened there with the spacing

Osmo here - from Amazon for about £8.
I apply to very slightly damp hair, leave on for 30 minutes with hair wrapped in clingfilm, condition really well with usual conditioner. It turns my darker blonde sections a lovely beige and my highlights a wicked lilac! I second PPs though re wearing gloves, it stains like mad (and don't use a white towel to dry hair after washing!)

I should add, I don't do the 30mins in clingfilm thing every wash - only about once every 10 days to 2 weeks. In between I use the Aldi brilliant blonde shampoo and conditioner.

John Frieda Sheer Blonde Colour Renew. Great for frequent use, you can see the difference and no worries that you'll end up with a purple rinse. I also have the fudge one but find it leaves my hair very dry, and it's very strong so if you use it wear gloves and don't leave it on a long time!

I put purple shampoo on DRY hair and leave it for an hour or two, then just wash it off in the shower as normal. It makes a massive difference to just wet-washing with it.

I use Lee Stafford or Charles Worthington (I think, without running to check in the bathroom), the darker purple the better.

ScarletLouise · 09/06/2018 23:01

Bleach London is the strongest IMO but be careful as it can be quite messy and has left faint stains on my white tiles Confused

PickledHoneybuzzard · 09/06/2018 23:02

Thanks Aridane!
The Charles Worthington is sulfate free but I'm a bit underwhelmed by it.

@alphajuliet123 is there a way to put it on dry hair without it a) taking ages and b) using about half a bottle? I tried this a couple of weeks ago after watching Whippycake's video on YouTube but the problem is my hair's down to my bottom ribs (though not too thick). Whippycake's isn't even shoulder length. I did love her colour result though.

Summer1986 · 09/06/2018 23:09

Lee Stafford smells the nicest but bleach London is the best I've used so far

happymummy12345 · 09/06/2018 23:19

I used John Freida purple shampoo and conditioner when I had blonde hair.

smashhits90s · 09/06/2018 23:20

The best purple shampoo I've ever used is mood. My hairdresser uses it on all her clients.

alphajuliet123 · 09/06/2018 23:22

AWasp - the Lee Stafford Ultra Violet one is runnier so might be better on long hair, I mainly just slather it on the top/surface area and comb it through. I can only do it once or twice a week but so far it's the only way of keeping brassiness away (and I've tried everything!).

Superdrug do the modern version of 'Shaders & Toners' - remember those! - for £1 I think, slather one of those on and leave it as long as you dare. I have worked up from 10 minutes to 40 mins to 2 hours by accident the other day, was scared I'd have blue hair but it is just lovely and ashy.

Thank all. I’ve orgered some Maria Nila silver shampoo. It smells amazing
