Cheapish, stylish(ish) and practical breast feeding clothes?

I'm 34 weeks pregnant and have just realised that assuming I won't be able to get into my old clothes for some time after the birth (which seems a very safe assumption - I've put on about two stone) I don't own a single thing that I could wear and breastfeed in. Probably quite stupidly, not a single item of maternity clothing I've bought - which is what I'd assumed I'd still be wearing post-partum - would be physically possible to feed in without essentially disrobing, and nor are any of the clothes I previously owned and managed to make work for pregnancy. I don't want to buy specialist nursing clothes as who even knows how trying to breastfeed will work out for me - but I'm also a bit worried about having literally nothing to wear post-birth if I am breastfeeding! What solutions did other people find? What can I find that's not too hideously unflattering (again, not expecting to look great but we will have a lot of visitors etc in the first couple of months so something that I don't hate is likely to make me feel a bit better), not too expensive in case it turns out to be unnecessary and will work as my weight changes considerably (hopefully downwards, but I know some women gain while breastfeeding!) and uterus contracts etc in weeks/months postpartum? Thanks in advance for the help!

I have some nursing vests which I like a lot, but it also works to have a vest top under a t shirt, shirt comes up, vest goes down, keeps most of you covered.

I do one up one down, so a vest top under a another loose top, lift up this and pull down the vest.
I also have wrap style dresses that I can pop a boob out of, you can get these anywhere really, my two favourite dresses are from next and new look.
Also recommend joining the Facebook group ‘Can I breastfeed in it UK’ which has loads of suggestions of where to buy lovely things, they also have a selling group where I got the next dress from recently.

I would absolutely advocate the one up, one down method. I had breast feeding tops but felt that they were more of a faff and after a certain length of time of breast feeding you'll be sick to death of wearing them.

For summer I'd recommend a vest top you can pull down with a floaty sleeveless shirt (you can get them cheap in H&M). You can dress them up with a necklace if you are off out and if you get them out of the washing machine and into a hanger quickly, they don't require ironing!

Bar some dresses, I'm of the opinion there's very little you can't breast feed in!Grin

Thanks so much all. I think the problem I'm struggling with is that I normally wear dresses almost daily (and almost all my maternity purchases have been dresses), and obviously pulling up doesn't work here! Will have a look for some wrap dresses and maybe some strappy ones that I could put a cardigan over (don't think I'll want to wear strappy with nothing over). Will get some loose tops and vest tops, too, but will have to figure out what I'll wear on bottom half!

You can do the one up one down with a dress, just wear a vest underneath and pull it up while pulling your dress top down, or
having a cardigan to cover your top half. A scarf can help for strategic drapery if you are so inclined, too.

Post Partum on the bottom I like elasticated harem pants and linens, easy to wash and dry 😊

Watching with interest! I am hoping to breastfeed and have been thinking about what I'll be able to wear, without going down the "nursing clothes" route (as they all seem ugly to me). So far I have bought a couple of wrap style tops, one has a popper, the other is stitched but I will replace with a popper.

OP what about button front dresses, there are loads around at the moment, and sales will be starting soon.

Definitely join the Facebook group Can I breastfeed in it UK. They also have a selling page if you wanted to get some bits second hand. You have way more options than one up one down but that is definitely the go to for everyday!

Cheapie wrap dresses from Amazon. I bought three for £7 each (reduced due to being end of line). They work really well.

Bellabutterfly2016 · 04/06/2018 15:09

I bought a good maternity/ breastfeeding bundle from eBay with some good bits in it - worth a look I didn't want to spend a lot either!

With wrap dresses I wear a crop top like these www.boohoo.com/lucinda-bandeau-crop-top/DZZ25615.html pull the crop top up and the dress down.
