Stripping hair dye

I've always used box colours just for a slight change on my natural colour and added shininess but now I'm 32 and my roots are growing through with some grey which I've never had before.

Due to money and time I really just need to stick with box dyes. At the moment though my hair looks to be different colours probably due to build up of different dyes. Would it be worth using a colour stripper to go back to basics and re-dye? Or is there anything else I can do?

I'm not a colour expert sorry but usually strippers are like a last resort I think she to the damage. Is it all permanent dyes or semi permanent you've been applying?

I've stripped my hair twice and it's utterly ruined it each time. I got a hair dresser to do it for me. I've got good hair, lots of it and in good condition. The stripper made it brittle and straw like to the point I had to have it cut short.

I used Colour B4 recently to strip a build up of box dye and it worked well. You have to follow the instructions carefully and rinse it really, really well. It left my hair slightly gingery where I'd dyed it as all box dyes contain some hydrogen peroxide which lightens the hair, but it wasn't very noticeable. It didn't leave my hair in bad condition at all.

You have to wait at least a week before re-dying it. I waited two weeks then put a lighter shade of box dye on and it's turned out well.

I've stripped my hair loads of time and it's never damaged the hair.

If you've used bleach beforehand when colouring then your hair may already be damaged but a colour stripper shouldn't affect it in the same way bleach does.
