Holiday "pants"

Griefbacon · 02/06/2018 12:40

Tradition dictated that as children we had new pants and socks for holidays and I have just done the same today for my children. I now emptied the airer and appear to have a million pairs for them and me. Do you do this? I feel I should return my ones (if even possible? They’re tagged in a set) but love a new knicker on holidays...discuss

I never buy new and save to wear on holiday, but I also don't buy a lot of clothes for myself or our children. I buy when needed we plenty of growth

AmazingPostVoices · 02/06/2018 13:07

New holiday pants? Erm, no.

I buy the children new underwear when they’ve outgrown the previous set.

JaceLancs · 02/06/2018 13:13

I always buy new underwear for a holiday - one bra and a pack or two of pants
When I come home I go through my drawers and chuck out an equivalent amount of the oldest items
It’s just part of my holiday routine!

bingohandjob · 02/06/2018 13:36

I used to do that then flipped it, take old ones, bin them on holiday after use and make a little room in my bag for a souvenir.

SparklySeashell · 02/06/2018 13:37

Yep I always buy new, not expensive, but much easier to throw a couple of 5 packs in the case then you know you've got plenty!

TheKitchenWitch · 02/06/2018 13:39

Why would you do this? I don't get it at all. If you have enough knickers and socks, why would you buy more just to go on holiday?

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 02/06/2018 13:41

I’m with kitchenwitch it makes no sense. Are you the people who buy entire new wardrobes for a week in Portugal?

Fromage · 02/06/2018 13:55

Because if your case were burst open at baggage reclaim, you would have naice looking fresh undercrackers for everyone to snigger at, not stringy grey and beige holey comfies that look more like dishrags than knickers.

Or is it just me that has knackered looking underwear that ends up the comfiest?

thedevilinablackdress · 02/06/2018 13:57

Nope. It's nice to maybe have a new top or dress for a holiday but that's about it.

I use the smaller packing cases that you get in a set of 7 so even if suitcase bursts open everything is still packed inside a case and nobody can snigger.

Never new pants, unless it's a romantic holiday!!! Always new dress/es. Generally a new bikini! I seem to like to buy a new perfume, don't ask why it's just my thing, and whilst on holiday I love a new high end lippy! 😂

Caramelapplecake · 02/06/2018 18:00

Lol we also used to have new pants and socks on holiday as kids but only because my mom had forgotten to pack the old ones!!

Passthecake30 · 02/06/2018 20:12

Only thing about my knickers on holiday is that I take some white ones (usually wear black) to go under my white patterned dress that I only ever wear on holiday (too short for here Blush)
I wouldn't buy new knickers and put them straight in the case, ever, since wearing a new pair without washing once and getting an awful cystitis type infection Sad

Racecardriver · 02/06/2018 20:13

@bingohandjob is a genius.

Griefbacon · 02/06/2018 20:18

I wouldn’t buy new simply for holidays don’t get me wrong. My little one has needed new for a few weeks but I thought I’d get them for holiday. As for me, I didn’t realise how many we had until I got a grip on the laundry. I could happily return mine if they’ll let me but this feels like I’m missing out! Our new ones would always be on holiday. Maybe it just fell that way but it’s a strong memory
No new wardrobe for holidays. Just undies. Well and maybe new jeans I needed anyway. Only a uk holiday so nothing major needed - typical UK holiday packing of vests and cagoules!
