FFS, why does no one put measurements on clothing adverts (Ebay)

okay some do, but honestly, it's such a pain with 2nd hand listings.
How hard is it to write the waist or drop measurements? I always include anything I can measure in an Ebay listing. How does anyone confidently buy without that measurement info??

I don't regularly shop with any specific brand, so I don't know what size in Next, Hollister, H&M or Tesco (or whatever) is likely to fit me. Are these brands really that consistent in sizing, anyway, especially one year to the next?

No wonder women's clothing has the highest rate of returns on Ebay!

Okay.. soap box stepping down.

Totally agree, it's so annoying. Sizes vary so much even within one shop but even if they are consistent, it depends on the year it was made. If the seller is being really "helpful", they'll say it's knee length or something. Knee length on who?! A 6ft model or 5"2 person.

ilovecherries · 01/06/2018 21:25

Huh. I put measurements on everything. Twice this week I've had people send a message with some variation of 'I don't understand cms. Please post in inches'. Argh.

MikeUniformMike · 01/06/2018 21:29

I usually put length and hem width. If it's branded then I point to the relevant web size.
I sometimes get asked for various dimensions and the person asking usually doesn't bid.

WanderingTrolley1 · 01/06/2018 21:34

I don’t have enough time to measure items as well as all the other faff.

If people ask, fine.

xsquared · 01/06/2018 21:51

I usually put the measurements of chest, waist, length and sleeve. I usually put a recommended UK sizing and tell them what size I am if I am modelling the item.

Haven’t had any complaints so far.

ChishandFips33 · 01/06/2018 22:40

Yes I agree

and I'll chip in a photo of the care label would be handy

and dimensions of bags

thefirstmrsdewinter · 02/06/2018 00:56

Drives me mental.

Though posting the measurements of the neck to hem, shoulder to cuff and collar (or other measurements that mean nothing in the absence of bust/waist/hip) is even more annoying.

OldJoseph · 02/06/2018 07:31

I agree, I've had a break from ebay buying because of this. Even when I ask the questions I am given the wrong answers, eg 'what's the fabric?'...'it's wool'. Item turns up %100 silk.

Another one-item is advertised as an 8, I email to check the measurements, I'm sent measurements that are a typical 8 and I know will fit me. Item turns up, it's a 12 with 12 measurements!

I won't buy now unless the seller gives plenty of details in the advert, if they don't then I don't trust them no matter how 'stunning' the item is

OldJoseph · 02/06/2018 07:34

Oh yes, knee length! Seems to mean 34 inches long, nope that't mid-thigh on me and I'm 5ft 2.

ThenCameTheFools · 02/06/2018 07:34

Because we're ebaying a few bits and bobs not running a multi million dollar clothing business.

And not even all clothing websites put measurements on, so I'm.buggered if I'm going to. I had 123 watchers and 73 bids on a Boden top this week, which bemused even me tbh, and I put my usual quicko one line description.

SquatBetty · 02/06/2018 07:41

No measurements is annoying but not listing the fabric is tiresome as well - just how difficult is it to select the fabric from the drop down material list!

OldJoseph · 02/06/2018 07:42

The reason I ask the queations is because ebay is 'buyer beware' and returns arn't always possible unlike the multi million dollar clothing businesses. A waste of money is still a waste even if it's less that a £5 (and it rarely is because of P%P charges)

Djangor · 02/06/2018 07:48

I always just ask for measurements if they are not given. Then, if the seller doesn't do returns as standard, it is easy to say you've sent the wrong item & insist on a return if the measurements are not what they have specifically said to you.

Pleasebeafleabite · 02/06/2018 08:14

I sell and always list length and chest measurements, on the basis returns are a pain in the arse for me too

I usually give inches as that’s what people seem to want

I find generally the more info/pics you provide the more bids you get and would rather spend an extra 5 mins improving the listing if I’m going to the trouble of listing anyway

And I offer returns- buyer pays - again I think it gets more interest

Trumpton · 02/06/2018 09:36

I was really upset recently as I bought a Masai Large for £40 and when I unpacked thought “00h that’s small “
Too small for me 14/16 ,too small for dd 12 ,eventually sold it on as a small 12 .
Neither eBay or Paypal interested . I have over 20 Masai dresses and never had one that small .
It has made me wary to be honest !

JaceLancs · 02/06/2018 13:29

I list so much stuff that it would take too long
If I know it’s a generous 12 and would fit a 14-16 I say so
Will always measure if people ask though
I buy myself but very rarely get sizing wrong and if I do I just resell it

BusterGonad · 02/06/2018 14:06

I never put measurements, I've measured when asked though, I buy stuff with the hope it's my size for that particular shop iyswim! I've often purchased stuff that doesn't fit but that's the risk you take.

Elledorado · 02/06/2018 14:35

I'm always worried that I'll measure wrong

MaisyPops · 02/06/2018 16:25

It never occurred to me to expect measurements for sizes on ebay as a buyer Blush
I google the clothing manufacturers website so if the ebay listing says 'fat face size 8' then I'll look on fatface.

I'm with you on descriptions like "knee length" though. So annoying

lljkk · 02/06/2018 17:58

my clothes shrink over time. I don't know how many washes that takes, but I'd like measurements in case different from when item was brand new.

OP posts:
MonumentVal · 02/06/2018 18:17

Clothes I can understand because all the different measurements are a faff. The number of people who list furniture without measurements really gets on my wick (bookcases, tables etc - almost bought a dresser which turned out to be a miniature...)
And all the people selling collection-only items who give their location only as 'London'...

NotMeNoNo · 02/06/2018 22:34

I do, Smile yes it's vv annoying when people don't.
