Achieving a glamorous make-up look

This is in the spirit of the fat and fabulous thread - I'm quite overweight but happy with my clothes, I have nicely shaped eyebrows and manicured nails - so for all those fabulous beauties with impeccably made-up faces, how can I up my game?

I realise there are hundreds of tutorials out there and I've watched and subscribed to some, but no matter how hard I try I can't seem to replicate the look. I have very dry flaky skin so I'm careful to exfoliate and moisturise regularly - I use a primer but even moisture rich foundation goes patchy. I've tried cheap high street brands as well as more expensive brands like Clinique, Bobbi Brown etc, but it nothing ever looks creamy and flawless whether I spend £15 or £50 on a foundation. My face looks wildly different to my neck and décolletage, so I tried the colour match system from No7 at Boots - and looked like a corpse.

I had to do some filming for a corporate video the other day - I carefully applied my make-up to look professional, but in the video I just look sickly like I just got out of bed and didn't put on any make-up at all.

I'm 45 with a pudgy round face and not many wrinkles - my skin is fairly clear and smooth with a tendency to look sallow, although I do have some redness in my cheeks.

Any tutorial recommendations? I watch plenty but so many of them are long and laborious with about a million steps and a gazillion brushes. Aren't there easier ones where you can look fab in 30 mins and not too much like a drag queen?
