Brazilian blowout/ blow dry

Hi.
Has anyone had one? I have waist length hair, and it's fluffy and wavy.
I am seriously considering trying the Brazilian as I look like a 40 year old Hermione Granger.
Chopping my hair shorter isn't what I want to do as it just gets fluffier!
Thanks in advance.

Yes, twice, and loved it. It will reduce the apparent volume of the hair by 50% so you'd have to be okay with that. Speeds up drying so much.

I've done it once, to try to tame my waist length fluffy hair. It didn't work. It was maybe a bit easier to straighten for a few weeks, but to be honest I think that was my imagination trying to see some benefit for the large cost!

What has helped enormously is following the Curly Girl Method of conditioner only washing. Amazing difference in condition, and huge reduction in fluff/frizz.

I long for sleek hair I can run my fingers through! How long did it last @villainousbroodmare

About four months first time. Second time a bit longer as I suppose I was re-keratinising some of it. I actually liked it better after a few months as there was more volume from the slightly-grown-out roots. Then I bought a rather expensive diy kit and got a hairdresser to apply it for me. It was no better than a once-off blow dry.

Wow! 4 months would be amazing! Thanks! Biggest fear is it sent horribly wrong and I'd have to have it all cut off!
That can't happen, can it? Confused

Dyson hairdryer is good for long thick hair. Made mine sleeker than normal. It's expensive but pays for itself after a while.

Has anyone tried this with highlighted hair? My hair is an annoying mixture of curly and straight and gives an overall impression of frizz and disorder. It's also very thick and masses of it, so I wouldn't mind at all losing some volume.

What exactly does the process entail? And what are the downsides if any?

QueenOfTheAndals · 31/05/2018 07:49

The original one used formaldehyde (sp?), which wasn't great, but apparently the newer ones don't. The downside is that formeldyhyde is what made it work well, so it isn't as long lasting anymore. I've had it done 3 times - first time was great but second and third not so great and the results didn't last much beyond a few washes.
