Please help with skincare routine

Okay as the title suggests, I have a crap skin care routine. By routine, I mean washing my face in the shower with a cheap facial wash and then putting some olay day cream on. My skin looks and feels so dry.

I'm getting married this year and want my skin to improve. My makeup currently doesn't stay on any longer than a couple of hours and I've been told it's because I'm not caring for my skin properly !

So please, those of you who do look after your skin - what products do you use?

And are there any face masks I could use once a week maybe?

Thank you Smile

I suffer from dry skin and eczema on my face. I was my face morning and night with warm water and Johnson's honey soap and splash cold water to rinse I avoid makeup as best I can but I swear by the simple range. Cleanse tone and moisturiser once a day usually in the morn. Avoid make up wipes or any scented wipes. I feel less is more the less I apply the more benefits I get. If you need to apply make up daily try powder rather than liquid base x

Thank you for replying. I'll admit I'm terrible at using wipes on my face so need to stop doing that. I also wear make up every day as look utterly horrible and ill without it.

I'll have a look at the simple range thank you Smile

Day - vitamin c and spf
Night - retinol
Twice a week - some kind of acid toner

Im a massive fan of Paula's Choice as I seem to have dry but blackhead prone skin. Regular use of AHA and BHA to brighten my skin and keep it clear has helped enormously.

Use a cream or balm cleanser. Apply massage then remove with a warm flannel.
Then use a hydrating toner.
A nice serum would be good- One with hyaluronic acid, apply directly on wet skin and then a moisturiser.
Exfoliate every few days. Nip+fab glycolic pads are good.
Use and spf in the day too.
Are you having a makeup artist? Make up should last much longer if so.
Maybe have a couple of facials if you can too in the run for a deep cleanse and hydrate.

Mask wise as dryness is your issue try a collagen sheet mask to plump skin.

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/05/2018 15:32

Look at Caroline hirons cleansing cheat sheet, you’ll never use wipes again.

Do book a makeup artist, I paid for so many things that I couldn’t afford one and I still regret it 8 years later.

For a basic daily routine I would cleanse, a toner without alcohol, hydrating serum, moisturiser, & spf (obviously skip the spf at night).

Personally I use a cleanser with a warm flannel at night as I feel this gives me a good clean with a little exfoliation. If I’ve worn make up or spf then I cleanse again to make it’s all off.

I would also recommend a hydrating sheet mask, maybe once or twice a week. Both boots and Superdrug have them.

Once you’re into a routine give any products a few weeks to see if they make any difference, and I would patch test them in case you’re sensitive. Don’t start lots of new products at once because if you do react then you’ll not know what to.

You don’t necessarily need expensive products, I love some of Superdrug’s own brand.

Wipes are crap. Many ppl rave about Superdrug but they just don't suit my skin unfortunately. You could consider:

  • La Roche Posay Toleriane range for sensitive skin
  • Avène Extremely Gentle Cleanser is also good, very gentle.
  • Body Shop Camomile Balm Cleanser as a first cleanse (to take off makeup and sunscreen)
  • Hydrating toners have made the biggest difference to my dry skin. I like this and this Several layers of each on clean skin, skin feels great.

Thanks for all of these ideas everyone. I'll have a good look through the products and try to get started !!
