Where can I buy t-shirts that don't look like dishcloths?

I get that 'lovely, slubby fabrics' so ( cheap and) beloved of Boden etc. are having a moment. But I'd prefer not to pay £27 (Hush, I'm looking at you) for a t-shirt that looks like I pulled it out of the kitchen sink after just one wear. And generally prefer to keep my bras a little more concealed than such rumpled monstrosities allow.

Where can I find lovely, well fitted, natural fabric t-shirts? Happy to buy online or in a real shop, but they are proving very elusive. Surely I'm not the only one with this problem?

I get mine from &Other Stories.

Lovely quality, wash really well and a few different fits available. Also the quota is in no way see trough which is a win!

Namethecat · 27/05/2018 08:02

I know exactly where you are coming from. These days the quality, fit and fabric ( and often design ) is total crap.

Gwynfluff · 27/05/2018 08:08

Also Cos and Arket - cost £12-19

AuntieStella · 27/05/2018 08:12

Uniqlo supima tshirts

I have a rainbow of them, in different colours and cuts

Clionba · 27/05/2018 09:49

It's like trying to find the Holy Grail. How difficult should it be to find plain cotton tee shirts that aren't see through yet not £££? Still looking Sad

Gwynfluff · 27/05/2018 09:56

@clionba honestly try some of the brands mentioned above. Not expensive and made with thick (but smooth), not see through cotton.

GinUser · 27/05/2018 10:21

Second COS, the past 3 years or so I have bought very nice t-shirts there, including silk ones. All wash and iron well.

Clionba · 27/05/2018 10:21

Gwynfluff - thanks, will do. I like Cos and will definitely give the others a try.

ThenCameTheFools · 27/05/2018 10:38

Supima is what to look for in cotton, I prefer M&S over Uniqlo which on me seem more of a "male" cut somehow, but supima cotton isn't the slubby stuff. I have just handed over all my slubby ones to dd Grin I am 52 FFS, I can't have my nips and my belly button showing through at work.

I have been looking at the Mint Velvet over-dyed ones, I love the colours, but was just saying on another thread, they look like slubby stuff, and I'm not paying £30 for a primark stylee see through piece of cloth!

Will also check out the other recommendations here.

Notcontent · 27/05/2018 11:34

Uniqlo used to be great but I just got one online and I am very disappointed with the quality.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/05/2018 11:43

Just bought this one.

greystripedteepee · 27/05/2018 11:54

@Unexpectedbaby
Never come across and other stories before. Think I may have found my shop! Thanks

bigbadwolvesnextdoor · 27/05/2018 16:19

What size in uniqlo for a 12 ? Want tshirts not too clingy on tummy but not baggy

Tanaqui · 27/05/2018 16:23

& other stories have lovely clothes, but returns have to be via a dpd drop off and they don’t do exchanges, so I don’t order from them any more.

BikeRunSki · 27/05/2018 16:25

Bam bamboo clothing I bought 3 T shirts last summer avd have been wearing them often ever since. They still look new. Pricey, but worth it.

SwedishEdith · 27/05/2018 18:50

I love Uniqlo but hate their t-shirts - too clingy and short. Best I got last year (so they've stopped doing them, naturally) was a Gap 'vintage wash' one. Got one Hush one which is ok but way overpriced and would never wear for work - too casual.

SwedishEdith · 27/05/2018 18:55

That M&S one linked is part of the problem - possibly an ok fit but has horrible unnecessary lacy embellishments on the shoulders.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/05/2018 19:14

I like the lacy bits.

frasier · 27/05/2018 19:15

Another vote for Uniqlo here

SwedishEdith · 27/05/2018 19:16

Sorry, that was pretty rude of me. I'm not an embellishments on clothes person.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/05/2018 19:35

It's v subtle irl - no rhinestones or sequins.

polexiaaphrodesia · 28/05/2018 12:27

I have a lovely white t shirt from Arket which cost £12. Lovely, thick 100% cotton and nice fit. Would recommend sizing up as sizes are on the small side.

MrsFezziwig · 28/05/2018 12:34

I know it's not popular on here but I like Primark T-shirts (the plain cotton ones, not the patterny tat). Good quality smooth cotton, choice of necklines and fitted/loose, and not see through, although obviously you do have to buy about two sizes larger than normal. I notice that M & S have started doing similar ones instead of the horrid thick cotton ones in grim colours.

AuntJobiska · 28/05/2018 12:35

Great thread, thanks!
