My skin is fair, sensitive, prone to redness .I keep things very simple with washing my face with a gentle soap and moisturizing with Citaplast by La RP.It works .
But what are my anti aging options my forehead has lots of lines the beauty therapist recommended retinol but her range started at 30 € and that's well over what I can pay.Any advice for affordable options?
It's clear since I turned 40 my skin needs more attention.

Nivea cream, big blue jar at night. Daytime cream in the morning.

Chicinwellies · 25/05/2018 22:27

I have very similar skin - stay clear of the Nivea. Honestly, the Aveeno moisturiser is fantastic for sensitive skin and really cheap. Pair with the Vichy eye cream and you’ll be impressed!

Vintagebeads · 25/05/2018 22:58

I can't tolerate Nivea unfortunately.Even E45 set my skin off.
Would you have any recommendations for wrinkles?

I have sensitive skin. I can use M&S sleep moisturizer, I use it night and day.
The cheapest is often the best for me.

Vintagebeads · 25/05/2018 23:06

I didn't realise M&S did skin care I will have a look.Thanks.

I would go with drinking lots of water to keep skin hydrated.

I would invest in Clinique City Block it will moisturise and protect from sun damage at the same time.

I have extremely sensitive skin and Clinique is the only skin care range for me.

Miracle Skin from Aldi. Very affordable, you only need a little bit. Itbis phenomenal. I normally use Estee Lauder and Elemis. Not now. Saving myself a fortune and getting lots of comments on my skin

Biologifemini · 26/05/2018 00:23

Grape seed oil as a cleanser and a dab as moisturiser
Eucerin 5% urea gives a good plumping effect
Avene tolerance mask is good and I stick it on overnight, but it all over as it is rich
All affordable and work well

Superdrug Optimum range. I've got very sensitive skin and over the years had awful reactions to a host of everything from No 7 to YSL and a load in between and I'm really impressed by the quality and feel of Superdrug's skin care ranges - I'm using Optimum at the moment but also their .B and Naturally Radiant, Simply Pure etc ranges are great and often half price/BOGOF etc

There's a brilliant skincare forum on reddit called skincare addiction that has totally sorted out my skin. My issues are different from yours but wrinkled were definitely a problem! Basically I now buy loads of stuff from Deciems The Ordinary range which has retinols for £6. I also use a new facewash and moisturiser called cerave from boots which that forum raves about and its just come to the UK. I also buy glycolic acid night cream from caudilie that works magic and avene is another good brand.

You need to play around a bit to see what works for you but at least its cheap from The Ordinary so it doesn't feel like such a waste if it doesn't work.

Thanks so much everyone. I am going to give some of these a try and see how I get on.Smile

I'm way older than you so have different skin needs but I also suffer from sensitive skin which I'm convinced was brought on by trying out too many random products at once. So my main advice is to go very, very slowly and only try one new product at a time. And then wait at least a month before you try anything else. That way if you get a reaction you can at least be reasonably sure what's caused it.

The safest thing for me is to use as few products and as few ingredients as possible so mostly I stick to either almond oil or wheatgerm oil for both cleansing and moisturising. I buy raw shea butter and sometimes mix that in too. If I do that, I can also get away with a sunscreen - which is really the most important thing. That and a healthy lifestyle I'm afraid.

I'm fairly sure it was a retinol based product that triggered my sensitivity and I will never touch them again. Funnily enough old school Nivea is one of the few commercial products I trust, even though it's heavily perfumed. What works seems to be a very individual thing so recommendations are only helpful up to a point.

I am very impressed with the sensitive range from Wilko, seriously it was £1 each. I got facial scrub, cleanser and light moisturisier for sensitive skin.

Elledorado · 26/05/2018 13:58

The Ordinary granactive retinoid

notmypropername · 27/05/2018 08:28

Deffo eucerin for skin. It's the only thing that's sorted my eczema out. Skin is plump and soft. Botox for wrinkles!!

OddBoots · 27/05/2018 08:41

You have so many suggestions here it would take ages and cost a fortune to use them all but just for what it is worth I use Simple rich moisturiser, a small blob in my hand then in the evening I drip onto it The Ordinary granactive retinoid 2%, I started with one drop per night and increased every 2 weeks (so really slowly), I am up to 4 drops per night. When the bottle runs out I think I will get the 5% and work up again with that.

In the morning I use the same moisturiser but instead I put 2 drops of The Ordinary EUK 134 0.1% (antioxidant), then half an hour or so later when that has properly sunk in I apply Altruist Dermatologist Sunscreen SPF 50.

None of my products are expensive but they seem to work for me. I have only been using them about 4 months but I can see the difference and have had no irritation.

Turnitupdrhill · 27/05/2018 08:53

I've also got really sensitive skin. The Ordinary retinoid had a terrible effect on mine - just one or two drops made my skin go red, swollen and flaky overnight. I use it on my hands now. I also had a bad reaction to another of Deciem's products, one in the Hylamide range.

The M & S overnight cream is very gentle, Eucerin eye cream is great and I've never reacted to any Roc products so it might be worth adding those to your very long list!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 27/05/2018 09:59

Aveeno moisturiser, as suggested up thread, it's very good.

ThenCameTheFools · 27/05/2018 10:43

Be careful with the M&S- I don't have particularly sensitive skin (ie I can tolerate Vit C actives, retinoids, acid toners, the lot. The M&S sleep stuff is very highly perfumed and made me want to scratch my face off. I had read such rave reviews about it, and was gutted!

I would ask on the amazing skincare thread, they are amazingly knowledgeable and will point you in the right direction for a routine- I am of the belief that a moisturiser is the least important thing in a routine, it's the cleansing/toning/treatment that makes the difference.
