Difficult outfit help!

I'm not sure if this is as difficult as it feels or if I'm just being super picky! But either way, I need some help please! Please, please, please!

The event: A PhD defence.

Atmosphere: somewhere between a wedding and an interview.

My role: best woman/bridesmaid/second. Don't ask, it's traditional...

I'll be with two men in sharp suits, possibly even tails and dickie bows (they haven't decided). The female equivalent is an evening dress, but that's not appropriate. A women's suit is going to look a bit informal next to two sets of tails, plus I don't have time or money to get a really good one. Heels are a given.

I'm 5'7, normally take a H&M 10, no tits but big hips. I tried on a couple of white tuxes, thinking white suit and black silk blouse would be good, but I've got too much arse even in big heels so look short and dumpy. Similarly, I end up looking like a Kardashian in a jump suit. Fine for a night out, but not standing with my back to a crowd! Skinny-fit dark trousers are ok if they've got plenty of stretch but they're not very formal.

Please hit me with ideas, I'm desperate! My budget is around 200, I'm currently based in France but can get stuff shipped or find equivalents.

Would a Chanel-esque jacket over a smart black dress or tailored trousers work?
Hair pulled back into a tamed messy bun a la Meghan Markle.. Immaculate makeup and heels.
Watched a presentation by a Dr recently, dressed like this and she looked really professional and feminine in a kick-ass way.
