Face discolouration, help!

I've always been prone to freckles, and while I don't burn in the sun, my freckles do kind of take over. This summer, though, I'm having a new problem - my forehead is turning brown and patchy! Like the mask they warn you about in pregnancy.

I use factor 50 on my face, applied in the morning before I put my foundation on and then again as and when I think I need it (if I'm outside in the sun for a while, usually). I've bought a hat but feel like a twat wearing it anywhere but the garden. I'm not pregnant, my youngest is 2. I'm 33.

Help! Why is this happening and what can I do about it?

It might be hormonal. You could see your doctor for blood tests.

Wear the hat. Also reapply the sunscreen more religiously, and try to stay in the shade. See if this makes a difference over 4 to 6 weeks.

Sounds like Melanasma. You can get it after pregnancy too. You also can get it from heat when you have full sunscreen on. You need to start using hydroquinone to get rid of it:

I have found this cream works for me. I had a patch of this hyper pigmentation on my nose and cheek. They faded away so you cannot see them using this.

I've had this for a year or so, it's not too dark though. It's on my forehead and down the side of one eye, but I actually quite like it!

Thanks everyone! I'll make more effort with the sun cream and will definitely try that cream silvery, thank you! I'm relieved to hear there is hope of it fading, I was worried it might be permanent.
