Dear all, I’ve asked before but didn’t get much and lost the thread! my knees look so dark that my own Mum asks me how I bruised them! 😵 they look awful, especially in photos they just look BLACK and I do a lot of sport so there’s always photos Confused I mixed race but quite fair so black knees just looks totally unnatural and horrible.
I think last time someone said AHA toner and urea cream; I’ve been using ‘nip and fab glycolic fix night pads extreme’ nightly and ‘eucerin intensive lotion 10% cutaneous emulsion urea’ about three times a day, been doing this a few weeks and honestly can’t see a difference especially in photos like I said 😢
I asked two different beauty salons one didn’t know and one said maybe waxing but I epilator because of regular sport. the Afro-carribean shop didn’t recommend their lightning cream they had in stock.
I’m wondering about dark spot treatment sets?
Oh, and I did exfoliate then a lot recently with those hair removal pads from boots then alternated with aloe Vera and urea cream hoping that’d be the end of it but they just got very weepy 🤢 and healed the same
Anything? it’s really getting me down, thanks

I think youre being heavy handed, hence the weeping and that probably made it worse. I have a bit, a small patch on each knee, I think most mixed race people do if that makes you feel better - you're not alone.
The best thing to do is just not stress about it too much. Has anyone else said anything apart from your mother? (mothers are notorious for noticing things other people don't)
Apart from just relaxing about the whole thing, just exfoliate and use a foot cream regularly, I do this and mine are smaller than they used to be, but still there. It's hard to get rid of because knees are a stress point, bending constantly, rubbing on fabric, all leads to hardening skin. The other thing I noticed is that the hard skin hid behind it some hairs, which obviously made them look darker, as the skin has become smoother a few have revealed themselves.
Just continue, but go gently.

I found a post on the internet once of someone using corn removal stuff on her's, I suppose it must have been the salicylic acid. I haven't tried that.

yeah people have said things, and I thought that myself about hair hiding, hence thinking the exfoliating pads would do a double job but they didn’t. I’m on the point of not going out today now Angry tried to post a cropped pic but it said it was too small

They're not as bad as you think, honestly. I wouldn't think your knees are terribly black. Mine have scars to distract from the patches. I tanned my legs which did help to make the patches look minimised, but made my scars look brighter.
Have decided to not give a fuck

PLEASE help me with dark knees!

Those are my lovely knees by the way

I think the only thing you can do is cover them, Mac face and body foundation?

POC shouldn't use glycolic acid as it can actually darken the skin instead. Lactic acid is a better AHA choice for POC. You should also be using an SPF with all this exfoliation going on, as again this can lead to skin darkening instead without it.

The Avene Akerat 30 is a higher strength (30%) urea cream for elbows and knees specifically, but it's only really of use if you've got a heavy build up of skin.

Be mindful it's going to take time. You could consider lactic acid peels, but you'd really need them done by a professional, dermatologist practice or similar.

I’m mixed race and I had the same problem. I fixed it using corn and callus remover and microdermabrasion. But be careful don’t over use.
