Anyone have a loose perm? Or is it very 80s?

I have shoulder length, naturally wavy/ curly/ straight all at different bits hair and it's just a mess.
I usually straighten it, but thinking I might get a loose perm put in to make it easier to manage. Trying to avoid heat on it but it's near impossible.

Does anyone have anything similar they can show me a pic of?

Sounds like mine used to be, it's now wavy verging on curly. I use the curly girl method (with a couple of changes) and my hair now looks a lot better. No need for a perm

Place marking as have similar hair.

goose , can you tell us more about the Curly Girl method and the tweaks you've made please?
I keep threatening my hairdresser that I'll have a perm. I used to love my permed curls!

I'm desperate to. I think it might be the answer to all my hair problems, but all my stylish/hairdresser friends are emphatically against it. I have shoulder length hair that frizzes at the first sign of moisture.

Agree that Curly Girl method is what you need, NOT a perm. If you follow the guidelines (use a sulfate free shampoo and silicone free conditioner, avoid all artificial heat - just wash and condition (or "co-wash" with conditioner only if your hair is quite dry) then dry using an old t shirt not a towel, apply silicone free curl cream and scrunch. Allow to dry naturally, then scrunch out the crunch) you will discover your natural curl (which is probably a lot curlier than you think!) and you'll never look back! The book is great and there are lots of curly hair forums
