Buying nicer products (shampoo etc)

UnderTheSleepingBaby · 15/05/2018 14:55

I have always tended to buy cheap products but realised recently that a bottle of shampoo (for example) lasts me for months so I don't really need to only spend £1 on it. So I'm looking for recommendations for nicer products that maybe cost a bit more but are worth it.

This is a list of what I use:
Shampoo and Conditioner - currently herbal essences

Shower gel - radox

Face scrub - st Ives apricot scrub, I actually quite like this one anyway

Deodorant - dove spray, thinking of trying a stick

Face moisturiser - whatever I could find with an spf, 'simple' I think

I hate the smell of coconut but that is pretty much my only limitation.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Regarding shampoo and conditioner, I really like Kind Natured ylang ylang and sage. Lovely on my hair and smells gorgeous (around 4.99 a bottle).

The Simple moisturiser which has a 30 spf is one of the best I've used (and I've used many) Grin

I really rate the face scrub you use. I’ve tried all kinds of expensive face washes and scrubs but always tend to come back to this.

Shampoo and conditioner I like keraste (if that’s how you spell it)

L'Occitane almond shower gel. It smells delicious and you only need to use a small amount. One bottle lasts me ages and I don't think it actually works out that much more expensive than much cheaper products.

LongWalkShortPlank · 15/05/2018 17:47

I made the switch to natural stuff and the difference in my hair is amazing. I bought faith in nature in chocolate and tea tree varieties, which weren't particularly expensive when bundled with the shower gel on amazon, and love them.

I prefer facial oils to creams for night time moisturising. The body shop oils of life costs £30 and is fabulous and better than loccitane oils. If that's too pricy try the boots botanics organic facial oil which i personally love. £11.49

I've recently switched to Dove Beauty bars instead of shower gel, and now I'm in a full blown soap obsession. I've picked up a few bars of Turkish Hammam soap to try next. I swear by tresemme for hair products ...

Herbal Essences is actually IMHO a really good product range. Aveda is very nice as is Redken. Jo Malone body cremes are lovely and there is a offer on at present (see JM threads in Style and Beauty!).

John Frieda hair products are good and often on offer in Superdrug and Boots

badgerread · 16/05/2018 15:24

I bought Aveda Shampure and the matching conditioner as well. It's 1000ml and lasts me AGES. It's £36 a bottle but my hair is in great condition and the products smell lovely. I have almost shoulder length, thick hair and I wash it every other day.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/05/2018 00:22

I love Aveda but they didn't have the litre bottle in the shop, I bought a 250ml (I have very short hair so it'll last ages)

Noticed my 18yo DS smelling very nice , using "that shampoo in the beige bottle" little toad.

I have L'Occitane Almond Oil shower , one of my favourites.

And Indeed Labs powder exfoliant (hidden from DS Grin )

Sorry, this disappeared from my list!

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm trying out the faith in nature shampoo and conditioner in pomegranate and roibos scent and am enjoying the lovely smell. Have made a note of the other stuff to seek out and try :)

I've started using Maui Moisture hair products. I used to use Kerastase Ultime Elixir as a masque, but I ran out and bought travel size Maui Moisture while on a work trip, and have found it as good for my hair.

madmomma · 05/06/2018 21:45

70 guard your indeed labs exfoliant with your life cos they've stopped making it Sad

tigercub50 · 05/06/2018 21:49

I love Champneys shower mousses - last for ages & smell really lovely. Boots came up trumps at Christmas as I ended up with a £20 gift set for free as part of a 3 for 2 🙂Some Tigi hair products are good.

TK Maxx have large (1l) salon shampoos and conditioners. Bed Head, sometimes redken and others.

Also nice shower gels there.

HyacinthsBucket70 · 05/06/2018 22:12

There are some great sites like feelunique.com and allbeauty.com that sell branded toiletries and stuff at discounts. I love Kerastase shampoos, A'Kin natural ones, Molton Brown..... and I usually get something different each time. I get my make up, hair stuff, shower stuff, you name it..... and it's always at a better price.

In terms of shampoo and conditioner, if you're willing to spend a bit more please do consider opting for a sulfate-free formula. Your hair will 100% thank you for it.
A lot of cheap shampoos are full of sulfates (Sodium Lauryl-Sulfate or SLS on the bottle) which are really dreadful for your hair and scalp. They are basically there to create the 'lather' but they are incredibly drying and can even cause breakage and hair loss.
Generally speaking, more upmarket shampoos are sulfate-free which is better. You may have to get used to the non-lathering effect and wash twice with it, but it's worth it for your hair.

WellTidy · 07/06/2018 09:49

Rituals shower foams are really lovely and last ages. They are £8.50 each. They are pressurised cans, you squirt out a bit and it comes out like gel, but it foams up. You don't need loads.

Having tried masses of body moisturisers, there are only two that I will now buy - Aveeno (about £6 or so) or Rituals magic touch whipped body cream (£19).

Gretol · 07/06/2018 09:54

Probably not at all 'nicer' but I bought LOreal Clay shampoo last week and my god my hair feels amazing. I absolutely love it (and have been through aveda/kerastase)

the only expensive one I rate is Klorane which is lovely

KatharinaRosalie · 07/06/2018 12:27

St Ives scrub is too harsh and damages your skin. Try Paula's Choice 2% BHA exfoliator instead.
