What jacket / arm covering would you wear for this dress?

Hello, long time MN poster here but I don't often venture to S&B (as I have no style!)

I've got this dress for a wedding in a few weeks (hoping the link works!).

www.whistles.com/women/clothing/dresses/nora-lace-pleat-mix-dress-27317.html?dwvar_nora-lace-pleat-mix-dress-27317_color=Dark%20Green#q=nora%2B

But it's a UK wedding so not sure what the weather is going to be like, so I think I need something like a jacket or similar. Anyone got any ideas of what arm covering might work with the dress?

I'm not usually a dress person so pretty clueless (weddings only, basically!).

I'm around a size 10 but conscious of my upper arms - I'm also as pale as a ghost with dark hair (and I'm 41 if that makes a difference Smile).

Any help / ideas would be really appreciated.

It's a lovely dress, OP! I'd probably go with a large shawl, but that won't be that useful if the day is cold or wet.

Apileofballyhoo · 15/05/2018 13:48

Probably a short black jacket - don't wear a cardigan add you'll be tempted to leave it on and the top of the dress is too pretty not to show it.

How about bolero jacket?

Lovely dress !

Apileofballyhoo · 15/05/2018 13:51

If you're self conscious about being pale but you don't want to do full on fake tan you could get one of those gradual build up moisturisers and start using it now. Subtle and less danger of streaks etc.

stellarfox · 15/05/2018 13:55

Lovely dress, you’ll probably be inside most of the day unless it’s sunny so you don’t really need a jacket but a shawl is a good idea. You could use fake tan if you are self conscious. Or a smart but summery blazer like this www.marksandspencer.com/open-front-collarless-blazer/p/p60131305?image=SD_01_T59_2956J_KY_X_EC_90&color=IVORY&prevPage=plp&pdpredirect

What a gorgeous dress! I'd probably just freeze as I couldn't bear to cover it up! Not helpful

Jackiebrambles · 15/05/2018 15:16

Thank you for the dress love! I'm really pleased with it.

@stellarfox I like that jacket style!

I'm a bit confused on colour, I got myself a pair of block heeled black sandals to go with it (as that is what Whistles styled it with - you see, i'm clueless!) so maybe a black short/bolero-type jacket is the way to go?

I have got a black blazer which is longer in the body but I think it's just too 'worky'.

Or would a lighter jacket and lighter sandals be better I wonder?

@Apileof Thanks for the gradual tanner idea. I'm so pale I've never done the fake tan thing as i've tried to go the 'pale and proud' route. Plus scared of streaks and looking ridiculous.

But maybe a gradual tanner on my arms/legs might help my confidence a bit. What are the good ones? I tried a Johnson's one years ago but it made my legs itch I recall!

I'd go for navy rather than black - cropped cashmere cardigan and navy block heel sandals?

dontcallmelen · 15/05/2018 19:15

I would go for a cropped cardigan as well, sometimes coast do some good ones, accessories lots of colours would go navy, gold, pink, I think would look good, would also have sandal type of shoe & match colour with handbag.

Apileofballyhoo · 15/05/2018 23:15

I think Dove do one. My goodness, maybe someone can advise on one that is non- irritating. I haven't used fake tan myself for years but I used to use one of the gradual ones, that's what made it pop into my head.

I hope you find a jacket you love. It's annoying to have a pretty dress for an occasion and then cover it up with something boring... I often admire Kate Middleton's selection of coat dress type things.

Apileofballyhoo · 15/05/2018 23:18

I like that blazer posted above. The trouble with a cardigan for me is I'd be tempted to leave it on and then nobody would see my dress!

Great dress! As you’re going for black heels like the model I’d go with a black fitted cropped blazer/jacket. Alternatively a cropped black cashmere cardi would also look fab!

Kocerhan3 · 16/05/2018 18:27

Either a navy or a white blazer would oooooze elegance

Jackiebrambles · 17/05/2018 13:16

Thank you everyone! This has been so helpful.

@Boomboom I'm ordering that Oasis jacket from HOF now! I'm getting one in each colour (black and neutral that looks a bit pinky though on the picture). I do have some metallic heels like these: (www.houseoffraser.co.uk/shoes-and-boots/miss-kg-pearl-sandals/d898600.pd#292781474)
that might work with a lighter jacket too, but i'll give it all a try on when the jackets arrive.

Flowers to you all for being so helpful!

Jackiebrambles Amazing!! My DH doesn’t understand why I have so many jackets, blazers etc but I don’t do the wrap thing over a dress & it’s amazing how you need waist length, hip length, fitted, loose, cropped, collarless, formal depending what you wearing underneath.
