How to wear a hat in summer.

I've been using Retin A, so am using a factor 50 spf but I don't trust it to last all day and can't always easily reapply, so also want to wear a hat whenever I'm out and about in the sun, but I can't seem to get this right style wise.

I have floppy sunhats which just seem too beachy.
I have an open headed peaked cap, which seems too lady golfer.
I have a baseball cap, which seems too American pick up driver.

What do I need?
This is for going the shops, walking the dog in a city area etc type activities.

What do others do?

I'm bumping this as it's a serious issue Grin.

I was hoping for lots of links to fabulous hats that would make me look cool and stylish...
Anyone??

I have a straw fedora. I love it!

I have a couple of these caps from Accessorize which are a bit prettier than banseball caps but great for bad hair days. A bit hot for full summer though.

I’m not sure if they have any like this at the moment but there are usually some on eBay

I think with any hat you just have to be confident in wearing it and not worry about how it looks.
My DD rocks a straw leopard print trilby

I got myself a straw trilby last year, but I'm seriously liking the £17 fedora in that m&s link. You know that you have to bite the bullet, get into a shop, and try them on, don't you? You have to perfect your technique for whipping them off again if they look hideous 😁

When I've tried trilby's before I thought they didn't suit me, but I agree they fit that stylish note between a sun hat and baseball cap.

I like those m&S ones, i may give thrm another go.

I wear hats a lot as I am breastfeeding at the moment and worried about pigmentation from sun exposure (also use SPF). I suit hats but even so I’ve only recently got the confidence to wear them (am in my late 30s). Agree with a previous poster you have to commit to wearing a hat, then just own it!
I recommend J crew - I have a few lovely, surprisingly well priced hats from there.
And yes to the fedora and trilby styles.

I have this one...
www.jcrew.com/uk/p/womens_category/accessories/hats/packable-straw-hat/F1722?color_name=straw
Think I got it with 20% off which they do from time to time.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 14/05/2018 06:49

Uhohmummy I like that one!
Right I'm off to try on trilby's again this week and am determined they will suit me, as they seem to be just what I need.

I have bought a trilby in New Look today, only £7,99 and I love it. It has a wider brim than the M&s ones, so it's just what I wanted something between a trilby and a sun hat.

I’d like to wear a trilby (also using Retin a) but although they keep my eyes out of the sun, they don’t really cover the bottom half of my face, where my sunscreen is most likely to rub off through sweating, wiping after eating etc. Anyone seen a wide brim trilby or am I stuck with a floppy sun hat only?

BabyItsAWildWorld · 15/05/2018 08:09

My New look trilby is wide brimmed!
And the j crew one linked above is too.
