Vitamin C Serum

OliveOrTwist · 12/05/2018 13:29

I'm currently using The Ordinary Vitamin C suspension 23% but feel like I want to upgrade to something more sophisticated. I've tried their 30% offering but it was too heavy in silicones for me.

Searches online seem to keep pointing me to Skinceuticals but I just can't justify their prices.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Or am I better of just sticking with TO and putting up with the annoying texture.

Timeless 20% C+E ferulic.

I started out with the ordinary 30% in silicone, which got me from the reaction phase through to the lovely glowy phase but I specifically wanted something i could use AM. So something which would sink in nicely before sunscreen, make up etc. The TO 30% wasn’t going to do that and the 23% definitely wasn’t!

I kept backing out last minute when about to order skinceuticals cos it’s just so expensive, so did some research and the timeless ticks all the boxes and I love using it, works brilliantly and sinks in perfectly so doesn’t affect my other products.

The main difference between Timeless and Skinceuticals is a PH difference as Skinceuticals has proprietary copyright (is copyright the correct word?) over those exact ratios with that ph. The Timeless ph is still in the appropriate, effective range.

You can get it on amazon but I bought it directly as it was slightly cheaper even with postage. Got it in a few days, £29 inc postage.

Have you considered any of TO's vit C derivatives? Or Deciem's other brands (I think it's Hylamide that has one).

OliveOrTwist · 12/05/2018 14:41

DCI Thanks! I've not come across that one. It sounds promising after a quick browse online. The price point is more what I'm aiming for. I'd love to try the Skinceutials but it's just too expensive.

Tbh, no I hadnt considered TOs other offerings ballyhoo. I used to love their products and I've used alot of them, but I'm just falling a little out of love with them atm for some reason. I should really investigate what else they offer though, particularly other deceim lines.

What does vitamin c do for your skin? What am I missing

OliveOrTwist · 12/05/2018 14:59

mellie I'm by no means an expert but I'm prone to breakdowns/acne especially since being pregnant. My face did not get the 'pregnancy glow' memo Angry, so I use it because it helps with the PIH (red marks) left after the spots. I also find my skin just generally looks more balanced and glowy when I use it. Apparently it also helps with collagen production and anti aging but I don't use it for that so I'm not sure how effective it is. Its definitely something that I miss if I've run out of.

I forgot to mention, has anyone ever come across the brand 'Mad Hippy'?

Or has anyone ever used Face Theorys Vit C offering?

I just started using the Vichy one. Started this morning so will report back if any good. It’s the first one I’m trying so nothing to compare to. If it’s no good I like the sound of the Timeless one mentioned up thread.

Apileofballyhoo · 12/05/2018 16:26

The newest TO Vit C is what I have my eye on - not the powder but something similar to the Hylamide one. I absolutely love the effect the 23% one has on my skin but it's stingy and I'm not sure it's suitable for day use and it makes my sunscreen go orangey (I actually don't mind this but I wonder if there is some kind of oxidation going on that's not good for my skin). I find the 23% is very hydrating and good for fine lines, but I'm not sure if it's the base it's in or the Vit C itself. I wake up in the morning looking so much better than usual though!

OliveOrTwist · 12/05/2018 20:29

Please do princessbear I'd love to hear what you think of it.

I too love the effect of TO 23% ballyhoo but I find it so tricky to deal with. We have white bedcovers and it stains my pillowcases yellow Angry and its such hard work to apply in the morning under makeup. Which is there newest offering? I've had a browse but I wasnt sure.

I use the Lumene glow boost serum and absolutely love it.
It works wonders on my dark spots/acne scars and doesn’t cause more breakouts.
Smells lovely and feels nice to put on.

YourVagesty · 12/05/2018 21:15

I don't know whether this is normal or not but literally 24 hours after using a Vit C serum my skin broke out horrendously. Scared me a bit so I stopped using it - anybody else experienced this?

SeahorsesAREhorses · 12/05/2018 22:07

Hero Project C serum is very good.

Motherofallbeasts · 12/05/2018 22:10

I use Sunday Riley - wanted to try skincutincels one but will look into timeless.....

fabtasticmrpox · 13/05/2018 08:49

I've used the face theory one. I'm currently using one from Superdrug which I prefer , its half price at the moment and £4.99.

veryveryquietly · 13/05/2018 10:17

Really really like the Lixir Vit C paste. It's not a serum but a wash off product. You can use in the morning for a few minutes, or for longer. It looks expensive (around £30 a tube?), but the tube holds a lot (twice as big as TO tubes, at least) and you only use a pea-sized blob at a time.

After shower/face wash, I put it on face and neck for 10-15 minutes while I have my morning coffee, then wash off and get on with rest of skin care. It's really helping me with clarity and improving marks from spots. Plus, no staining of anything.

princessbear80 · 21/05/2018 13:54

Reporting bank on the Vichy one @OliveOrTwist. I really like it. Easy to apply, no stinging, no residue, my skin looks brighter after one week. And I think my sun spots might be starting to fade (although maybe that’s me being optimistic!). It doesn’t last long though, I’ve used over half the teeny tiny bottle in just over a week.

Apileofballyhoo · 24/05/2018 01:05

deciem.com/product/rdn-ethylated-ascorbic-acid-15pct-solution-30ml @OliveOrTwist

Sorry, I only saw your question now. That is the new one, and there's another new one that's mixed with some other thing. The one I've linked to is a cheaper version of a more expensive one Deciem make in either the NIOD brand or Hylamide brand.

Worieddd · 24/05/2018 02:27

Paula’s choice vitamin c booster with ferulic acid. It’s fab

IvyFluids · 24/05/2018 02:42

Melano CC vitamin c cream is great and cheap. The easiest place to buy it is from amazon and ebay unless you are happy purchasing from the Korean beauty stores online. I recommend. I found it much better then the paulas choice or the ordinary ones.

DrowningEveryDay · 24/05/2018 04:49

I'm using The Ordinary too but I really don't see any difference. Am I in the minority here?

OliveOrTwist · 24/05/2018 21:07

Thanks ballyhoo I somehow missed that one when I was looking through the offerings a few weeks ago. Looks interesting!

Its great to see the vit cs you all use. I'd not heard of some of them. Some research for me to do I think. I'm nearly out of my final TO 23% so I need to make a decision soon.
