How to wear linen - creasing

raindropsandsunshine · 12/05/2018 09:55

I love linen, the texture and feel, and how it's cooling on hot days.

However...I don't like the creasing after a short time of wear.

Do people just accept this or is there a special linen I should look out for?

I only buy linen now if it's either vintage (no later than the 80s) or very high end second hand. It's not so much the creasing but the droopiness of high street linen that I can't stand, especially the trousers. I find the old school stuff will still crease but it holds its shape somehow.

I have a pair of wide legged linen trousers from J Crew. The material is quite heavy and retains its shape pretty well. The linen in Zara and other high street shops is rubbish.

I've only bought some linen mix from Asda...yes it does crease slightly but I just accept this.and dont bother ironing most of the time

Jaeger linen is very good. Still a bit of creasing as expected, but no way as bad as some lighter weight linens. Expensive, so I get mine off eBay.

@Bejazzled Thank you, I think I might look on eBay too. How is sizing? I'm a 10 in White Stuff, Fat Face etc should I go for a 12 in Jaeger?

Linen creases much less when it's humid, so ideal for the tropics but maybe less so for UK - unless you like the paper bag look Grin

raindrops Jaeger come up big so look out for size S or 8 - 10

I think you have to go for really good quality linen, I found a make called Oska and could only afford to buy in the sales, but it's still going strong 15 years later. It creases nicely rather than looking all rumpled, hard to explain...
