How to look summery but stay warm?!

I’m really trying to ditch my winter coat(s) and get some wear out of a cord and a velvet blazer that I have, but I wore one yesterday, with bare ankles and a shirt and I was pretty cold.

What’s the solution? Another layer under the shirt? Cotton, light coloured jumpers?

It was pretty cold yesterday. Do you have a big scarf you could wear with the blazers? That’s what I did yesterday and it worked well. Otherwise fine knits under blazers - extra fine merino is warm without bulk

I think the answer is to dress for the actual weather, not what we think it should be.

Yeah, I know dudsville Smile because it’s still cold, but I want to kind of nod towards warmer weather!

Maybe just need to keep my jumpers on under my blazer. They’re all really wintery colours though. But I suppose a scarf would hide that. No one seems to be wearing scarves any more though.

Agree with @dudsville you need to simply dress for the actual weather not the supposed season. I often think this on a rainy day when I see people splashing along in sandals simply because it's June, or shivering in lightweight summer dresses and bare legs.

There's no need to revert to full on winter clothing, but proper closed shoes or trainers, and trousers instead of skirts might be an idea!

In your example, I would have worn the blazer but with a slim fit jersey t-shirt and cotton thin knit sweater, or long sleeve jersey top. Then trainer no-show socks and shoes like brogues or loafers, or trainers.

A jumper like this, in fact in a couple of the colours, the model is wearing a perfect cool weather outfit which would go with your blazer:

Coming from the far north I'm an expert at this. It's all about colour. I have cashmere cardigans in summer colours - my bright green one in particular always gets summery comments but it's just as cozy as my navy cardigan. About a month ago I wore a brightly patterned cotton skirt to work. I wore it with opaque tights, chelsea boots and a woollen jumper (all navy). Completely warm but still felt springlike because the skirt had white and red (and navy) in it. Brightly coloured shoes or belts or handbags all have the same effect.

Of course, it also depends how much you feel the cold, it was pretty warm here yesterday (I wore sandals, jeans, t-shirt and a thin cotton sweatshirt) so surprised to see people say it was so cold elsewhere that what you were wearing felt cold.

There’s a fifteen minute wait between pickups at school which is why I get cold, I’m fine as I’m walking.
I think I do feel the cold, but am also in Scotland.
I think maybe people who aren’t having to hang around like me, or feel the cold less are able to wear less clothes so I can’t just copy what they’re doing.

May be overthinking. Grin

summer dresses and cardi but bare legged with socks and boots?

Summer dresses with leggings and sandals?

I'm also from Scotland and also feel the cold. I've now got a good selection of v thin long and short sleeves thermal vest (think they call them heat-gen ) from M&S and uniqlo, then I wear them under what others might consider a normal outfit.

For example wearing one today under white and silver long sleeved breton, summery scarf from Oliver bonas, cropped jeans, trainers and rain coat. Feel comfortable but also not in my usual winter clothes.

Also wear thin polos under a thin jersey in winter, and switch to a thin, soft shirt under thin jersey in summer (still with thermals if needs be) and I always have a lightweight scarf on.

Hope that helps- I hate being stuck somewhere and too cold!! But also hate lugging around my big winter coat!

I have a couple of cashmere/merino ponchos in lighter colours I can layer over linen t shirts and vest tops. They’re a bit more summery than a coat. But it was so cold yesterday here I wore a long linen vest, linen T plus cashmere jumper and a cashmere poncho on top- with ankle boots 😊.

I have the same problem in that I feel the cold easily - especially my feet. I work in a cool, air conditioned office and would love to wear ankle grazer trousers and summer dresses to work, but my feet and ankles get cold, and then so does the rest of me. So I end up wearing jeans with pop socks and ballet pumps, yes I know, but I can't concentrate with cold feet and ankles.
