Fake tanning ritual

Sweetdisposition91 · 11/05/2018 21:05

Hi All, so I usually fake tan once a week on a Thursday, looks nice over the weekend then by Monday it’s faded a lot and I start to go a bit patchy and paler throughout the week before I scrub it off and start again.

Does anyone constantly maintain their tan? If so please tell me how! Even when I scrub it off it never seems to all come off, any tips with this?!

How often do you all fake tan/gradual tan?

I fake tan on Thursdays too! I do it once a week so don't really maintain the tan as such, I do exfoliate lightly every shower with gloves or puff sponge thing (?) and my usual shower gel, and Thursday eve before tanning I use a shower scrub and am a bit more forceful. I started doing this a couple of months ago and although my tan is quite faded by the Thursday it's even and not patchy and the new coat goes on a lot better

Mybabystolemysanity · 11/05/2018 21:17

Decent scrub 2-3x a week makes a massive difference. I've yet to find one that lasts a whole week. I think I read somewhere that the patchiness/snakeskin effect is worse using gradual tanner than a proper tan. I probably do an in shower tan a couple of times a week to maintain and a proper one once a week. It's a chore though...

Pinkvici22 · 11/05/2018 21:26

Watching with interest...
Does the scrubbing during the week not take the tan off?

Mybabystolemysanity · 11/05/2018 21:29

Yes, I suppose it does, but not completely and it does help to mitigate the patchiness. I guess I like to look like my skin is in really good condition, as opposed to very tanned and I think the scrubbing helps with that.

GlassSuppers · 11/05/2018 21:35

I'm also watching with interest.

I don't tan but really want to!

Can anyone recommend a brand?
How do you do your back? Confused

PoppyBubbles · 11/05/2018 21:40

I go between fake bake, bondi sands or st tropez - whichever is on offer at the time Grin if I absolutely have to do my back I actually use a coat hanger. Pop the mitt over the end and struggle on, you can get proper ones online though

GlassSuppers · 11/05/2018 21:44

Oh so you don't do your back every time then?
Do you just do where people can see?
Arms, legs, neck & face?
What about ears?!

(Sorry if I'm taking over the post, I'm fed up of people comparing their brown arms to my white ones!)

megletthesecond · 11/05/2018 21:51

I do my legs sometimes. Boots anyway up spray tan.
I stand in the corner of my garden after dark in pants (and top!) with the security light off and whoosh the spray all over my legs.

molemonkey · 11/05/2018 21:51

To remove any patchy bits so when you tan again it's on fresh clean skin, so no old fake tan cover your skin in baby oil and leave for 30 mins and then get in the shower and remove with a flannel!
No harsh scrubbing or red bits!

PoppyBubbles · 11/05/2018 21:52

No I do the back of my neck and the top of my back to where I can reach, and the bottom just the awkward bit in the middle I don't do unless I'm wearing something where it will be on show (which is not very often).
I do my neck up to my jawline and behind my ears but only when I'm finished so there's very little product on the mitt. I don't do my face I just match my foundation to the colour of my neck and I don't actually touch my ears Blush sometimes I will sweep my make up brush over them with a little foundation but my tan isn't very dark so it's only when I think I need to, like if I'm wearing my hair pulled back.

Mybabystolemysanity · 11/05/2018 21:54

Glass I try and do all over as evenly as possible. Having a husband is quite a good way to get that bit between your shoulder blades that always gets missed! Failing that, you can get a sponge on a stick thing or if you're using an oil tanner, a clean J-cloth works too.

Never tried the coat hanger!Grin

I really rate the St Tropez and Rimmel in shower ones because they don't leave you all clammy. Bondi sands oil is great too.

If using the in shower ones, dab dry and buff with a dry mitt afterwards, especially with the Rimmel one because you use it like a car wax. Don't try to get all the residue off in the shower because you won't be able to! Buff afterwards and you're dry by the time you've finished.

KhalliWalli · 11/05/2018 21:59

I apply another coat to my face and backs of my hands halfway through the week.

I use an Australian organic brand and the tan is lovely: no smell, goes a beautiful golden colour and fades evenly.

I found Fake Bake and St Tropez to be a bit unpredictable and I don’t lik the slight green/grey tinge you get sometimes.

Sonnet · 11/05/2018 22:04

Very interested in this..
So, could I fake tan once a week and top up with a gradual tan twice a week???

GlassSuppers · 11/05/2018 22:26

Very interesting.

I'd never even heard of an in shower tan before!! Blush

Thanks ladies

Sweetdisposition91 · 11/05/2018 22:32

Definitely going to try the baby oil trick thanks!

I fake tan all over including my face but not my ears lol I start from my feet and work my way up using circular motions wearing nitrile gloves and then buff in with a mitt if I’ve got one to hand.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/05/2018 09:24

I can make mine last 6 days. I wash in sulphate free shower gel from dr organics and pat dry after each shower.

I only use glycerine based body lotion when I’ve got tan on.

UpperWallop · 12/05/2018 10:15

The st tropez in shower one is awful. You stand there, freezing cold, not knowing what to do with yourself and then, you barely get any colour anyway.

InTheRoseGarden · 12/05/2018 11:05

Sonnet yes that's what I do when I want to maintain a fake tan. It's so much work though, gets on the bed sheets and I hate anything that leaves s sticky residue.

KhalliWalli · 13/05/2018 02:04

InTheRoseGarden, the new generation of tans are not sticky and don’t stain the bed sheets.

megletthesecond Best laugh today - just picturing you in the corner of your garden!

InTheRoseGarden · 19/05/2018 18:39

Ooh @khalliwalli what do you use? I've always used St Tropez lotion and moisturiser.

KhalliWalli · 20/05/2018 04:36

@InTheRoseGarden, I use this one: Samantha Sona

It's a beautiful colour, really even and no smell at all. And it's organic so no nasty chemicals. I buy it locally but I think they ship to the UK.
