Would you bin makeup that’s just “wrong” now that your hair colour has been lightened?

That’s it really. I have stuff I’ve had a while and have barely used (I guess because it wasn’t really a good match, when bought). My hair has been lightened in a beige blonde kind of way, less “warm” and I’ve noticed my foundation and lippie just look off. Make me look a bit overdone, tbh. I want to throw them.

Does anyone ever have a total clear out of makeup they’ve used for years because it’s just not “doing it for” you anymore?

Yes! Bin it. Hair changes often mean you need to update your make up.

I may have to. My No7 colour match now looks kind of ashy and is doing nowt for me. I had to warm it up to such an extent that I just looked totally overdone. It seems wasteful but I love the hair and the face paint kind of detracts from the “lift” that’s given me, like wearing “the same old same old”, iykwim.

I'd be tempted to keep it in case you need to use it as your colour fades. Blondes can change so much between colour appointments, becoming lighter/brassier depending what you have done.
I have my hair bleached & a toner applied then I tone it at home in between getting roots bleached and my make up varies depending what stage my colour is at.

Good point @Floop. Can I ask, what do you use as a toner, at home? I bought some purple shampoo (as advised). However, my makeup in the past has been an exercise in making me look “well”. Tanned and, to be honest, a different colour to my cadaver-ish body. What I’ve bought now is a better, though paler match so, there’s no disconnect between face and neck. The coral blush/lippie combo has been swapped for cool pinks, blue based and brightening rather than warming.

I’m thinking I should just bin it and go with the makeup that’s more my natural colouring rather than trying to be something I’m not and never will be. TBH, I’m looking forward to going grey because I’ll probably not have to make such an effort to be “warm”. My mum’s grey now and it’s a lovely Judi Dench colour so, fingers crossed.

Yes, bin it. I binned lots of makeup and also quite a lot of clothes when I changed my hair from greying to mid-brown. None of them suited me anymore.

ellie232 · 10/05/2018 21:10

Nope because I know in 6 months I'll be bored of being blonde and go brown!

Always good to audit your makeup, if only to make sure nothing has gone off. I did this this evening actually, I have a basket of makeup I don’t want to throw away but don’t want to wear, half of it had gone funny so easy decision to get rid. Check the use by dates on liquid and cream products.

Separate everything you think doesn’t suit you anymore into a separate place (like my special basket!) and just leave it there for a while before deciding if you want to keep it or not.

It’s only makeup, it doesn’t last forever and you can re-buy it!

Ive gone from purple, teal, pink to red to blonde to light pink to neon pink to blonde and now dark dark with highlights and yes my make up changes every single time!

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 10/05/2018 23:32

@Viley, you’ve an adventurous spirit!

I think I will use the basket method. I’ve probably started with that, without realising. I have a shoe box with makeup items I don’t use but can’t quite let go and do need to check use by dates. It’s stuff that I loved when I bought it but six weeks in, I realise it’s “off” for my colouring.
