Dress me for work trip please - cheaply

I’m off on a work trip to warmer climes. I need 4 days business wear but not a suit as I look horrific in them. I have weird shape in that I’ve big hips AND tummy but not as much waist definition as a pear would have - maybe more dumpy skittle. I get hot easily and hot and bothered when presenting so would like to try and achieve cool. Only got £100. What can I buy?? My current business dresses don’t fit so I need new things. Help!!! Boobs are ok once rolled into a bra but I’m very ....well...dumpy is the only word for it. Very pale too so not keen on lots of leg on show but could fake tan if that is advised?! Help!!!

Something like this maybe? Shame it's black though as a lighter colour would be cooler.

Also,
Dumpy skittle!!! 😂😂😂😂😂

Polkadot1974 · 10/05/2018 19:02

I like both of those. Wonder if I can find similar cheaper and get two frocks and maybe a skirt and top. Got navy pants and a blouse which would do at a lunch for first meeting which is after travelling and I could just pop heels on. Black hides any sweat at least. God I sound attractive don’t I? Grin

You could always try the likes of supermarkets or primark. I find these style dresses are common this time of year and you may get them cheaper.

I used to have to do business trips to the caribbean. I found wearing sleeveless tops/dresses a big help. Always wore tights to avoid chub rub. I found I could wear the jacket indoors in the air con offices and then be comfortable outside by taking it off.

Have you considered looking in charity shops?

Polkadot1974 · 10/05/2018 19:51

Charity could be a good call if I go somewhere posh for rich cast offs. Ebay could be ok but I’ve so much shite I’ve never resold it’s been false economy. Dress and a jacket might be good. Primary is ok but the cheap fabric is uncomfy I find in some items.
Is ASOS any good?

I've had good luck with ASOS in the past.

Polkadot1974 · 10/05/2018 21:34

Had a look t ASOS but all I could find was beach or body con. Not me!! Might try Sainsbury’s tomorrow - I have to buy something or will have to go in jeans..

I bought a wrap dress from krisp from amazon for £11. It's really lightweight and great for work in hot weather (needs a vest top under as it's very low cut but they might do other designs)

BigFatBloomers · 11/05/2018 21:50

What size dumpy skittle are you polkadot?

Dorothy Perkins sometimes has good dresses and they have 25% off at the moment

Polkadot1974 · 12/05/2018 08:05

12/14. Feels like 14 today!

How about this dress?

I have three of these dresses - a pink one, a white one (which is fully lined so might be a bit too hot) and a dark green one. They're really nice to wear. Like you I don't have much of a waist, so the shift style works really well.

You can dress them up with a casual jacket - or just a light cardigan if you need one.

At only £25 you could buy four!

Polkadot1974 · 12/05/2018 12:47

I like that dress but out if stock! Noooo!

If you Google 'm&s linen dress' you'll find lots of different versions of the same style

peachypetite · 12/05/2018 12:51

Linen crumples. Avoid. Sainsbury's have some nice cheap dresses.

OlennasWimple · 12/05/2018 12:56

Bear in mind that if you are going somewhere properly hot the room you are presenting in will probably be air conditioned and a little chilly

So avoid bare arms, get a jacket / cardigan, take a wrap thingy too so you have layering options

BIWI · 12/05/2018 13:50

Actually, @peachypetite, the linen those dresses is made from doesn't crumple.

Polkadot1974 · 12/05/2018 20:58

Good point. Car will likely be cool between meetings and meeting rooms but walking to and from will have me warm so layers are good
