Haircut woes

I have lots of very thick hair. Everytime I go to the hairdresser I come out disappointed. Sometimes I go in with a photo, sometimes without.

Everytime I ask for layers and for them to take as much weight out as possible but it still doesnt achieve a light textured look. Just a straight block.

Many years ago, I had a hairdresser that cut my hair with a razor. It was the only time I ever loved my hair. Im not very brave when I go to the hairdressers though and the last time I tried to ask for this she looked at me like I was an alien and asked why on earth Id want my hair cut with a razor!

I want hair like the attached pic, wave included.

How can I make sure I come out with that lovely light textured look or is it just impossible with my hair type?

Whereabouts are you op?

Lotsofsausage · 08/05/2018 23:23

Do you actually have wavy hair? if not it will look like a block.

Bloomed · 08/05/2018 23:26

That photo is heavily styled, not just a cut. Do you have wavy hair?

Hmmm, so just unrealistic expectations then...

Hair is naturally straight but will hold a curl if enough weight is taken out. I realise that the picture is styled, but they spend so much time blow drying it and all the layers just get lost in my mass of hair!

Im in the northwest Joyce.

That’s a very stylised do, lots of blow drying, then straightening, then texturising, then some pomade and other stuff too. Would take an age to achieve, lovely as it is.

I know exactly what you mean! I too have the very thick hair curse and have only ever had one haircut where I really felt the hairdresser 'got' what i wanted - and ironically he didn't speak a word of English but was just really talented! Every other time I've either ended up with helmet hair or what I refer to as a sort of mom mullet where they take far too much weight out the bottom and leave it sort of top heavy. I honestly don't know what to do anymore and dread going to the hairdresser because even if you ask to keep the length they can cause you huge problems by cutting the layers too short. Following this thread with interest :)

I feel you pain spacecadet. Hairdressers ways comment how lovely it is to have such thick hair, but I honestly cant do anything with it!

Haircut is booked in for tomorrow. Ive found a new picture, hopefully more achievable..

I might ask for an undercut at the back to help with the thickness. Probably take some convincing of the hairdresser though, hair is currently quite long and they always seem a bit funny about being asked for a short cut!

I know exactly what you mean about never getting the cut you want, i had my haircut last week and i get the rage every time i look in the mirror, i hate it. I usually have a very short pixie crop, textured and spiked up, choppy but no this hairdresser just seemed to cut it into a bowl shape, instead of looking like Halle Berry, it looks like Jim Carrey in Dumb and DumberConfused i have had 2 hairdressers who did a great job but left and i have been to most in my town and am not happy with any of them, i always get a mumsy cutHmm

I am going on holiday in 5 weeks and am going to have to cut it myself, god help me
