Beautiful skin from within

Excuse the vom inducing title.

I'm sick of trying to perfect my skin from the outside when nothing really quite works, so I'm calling on MN to ask you what food/supplements/habits have you found to improve skin tone and texture?

Im dealing with a hot mess of acne, dehydration and redness here.

I drink shit loads of water, literally litres of the stuff.
I eat healthily, minimal sugar.

I have to admit I drink LOADS of coffee, roughly 6 or 7 cups a day which I'm assuming doesnt help?

Any secrets, tips, pointers?

Have you seen your GP? Polycystic ovaries? Hormonal imbalance?

Krill oil and evening primrose oil cured my dry/dehydrated skin, I can't recommend them enough. I also take B vitamins (terra nova are great). Vegetables, especially greens, in large quantities also make a difference as does lots of fish.

I also drink loads of coffee (organic, black) and don't think it affects my skin negatively - there was no difference when I stopped for a few months. I'm convinced soft drinks and fruit juice causes spots though, prob the sugar content and sweeteners.

Visit a dermatologist to get personalized regime.
Eat avocado, fatty fish, eggs and greens and yoghurt.
Wash with soap and water both on the morning and before bed. Balms, milks, lotions are useless, only good to remove makeup and nothing more, you need to actually was afterwards. So yes double cleansing.
Use products for acneic skin, non comedogenic and, crucially, as few as possible.
Don't wear too much makeup and again go for non comedogenic formulas.
If you put nothing on your skin for a month, but only wash it, most probably your acne will go away. Mine did. Tbat was my dermatologists advice.

I joined a gym and my PT immediately said I needed 5 litres of water a day. Every day. He's a dick who is clearly trying to destroy me with squats and weights but it's had such a huge effect on my skin. It sounds a lot but when you work it out, it's do-able and after 5/6 days you stop needing the loo so often.

Biotin supplements, lots of oily fish and nuts, double cleansing even if it's with cheaper cleansers and using oil on my skin at night are also part of my everyday routine.

dry brushing the rest of my body...

link to instructions and the more balanced view that it doesn't work for everyone: www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.com/dry-skin-brushing-downside/

and brush i bought: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01C3F2BBK/?tag=mumsnetforum-21

i can now get away without ALWAYS having some kind of makeup on. i have ok skin anyway but i def look brighter, fewer spots, etc. and if you moisturise after then the rest of your body ends up all soft and smooth which is a pleasant side effect...

I've got good skin and I low carb with lots of green veg, salad and healthy fats like extra Virgin olive oil, avocados etc. I also use sun screen daily.
