Talk to me about Velcro rollers?

Am I doing it wrong?
Dry hair, straighten (have to straighten as it's very frizzy otherwise) then put in Velcro rollers.

They give my hair body but not even the slightest curl and the ends are poker straight, I'd like the ends to curl under.

What am I doing wrong?

I think the straightening is the problem. Babyliss sheer volume would be better than a straightener.

I have the really big ones and keep them in about an hour..

I always got poker straight ends when I used straightening irons.

Now I blow dry with a powerful hairdryer and a round brush, in sections. When each section is done I roll it up around the Velcro roller and pin it with a Kirby grip, then give it one last blast of heat with the hairdryer and leave it to cool around the roller as I move on to the next section. When my whole head is done and up in rollers I lightly mist my whole head with hairspray and leave the rollers in while I finish getting ready.

It sounds time consuming but now I’ve got the hang of it it actually takes much less time than drying and straightening it used to.

Result: smooth, bouncy hair with root volume and a bit of curl at the ends.

I wish I had taught myself to do this years ago.

The Babyliss big hair gets a similar result but it is less powerful so takes longer and they tend to burn out within six months.

I have slightly frizzy hair and dry it with a dryer on hot, raking it through with my hands to get some of the frizz out. I put the rollers in when my hair is almost but not fully dry, blast head with a dryer on hot for a couple of minutes, then on cool. Leave in for c.15 minutes (up to 30 mins if I've got time.)

Comes out bouncy and curly (sometimes too much so but I don't mind that because it drops after a while and I'm left with smooth waves and bounce.
Also try spritzing with hairspray (think John Freida does an anti-frizz one )
after you've put the rollers in.
