Adidas Gazelle - ow!

Wore my new pretty pink Adidas Gazelles for the first time this weekend and within half an hour my ankles felt sore. I stopped to check and the trainers had rubbed on the back of my ankles and peeled away a layer of skin!! Shock

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this part of the wearing in process (do trainers need wearing in?!) Or will I be in pain every time I wear these trainers?

Were you wearing trainer socks? Most trainers would rub exposed skin on first wear.

LostInShoebiz · 07/05/2018 10:11

Gazelles are notorious for this. They don't suit everyone's feet.

Fleanne · 07/05/2018 10:32

I did wear socks but this didn’t help. The plasters I put on afterwards did, but I can’t wear plasters every time I want to wear these trainers! Or can I...? Smile

Glad to hear it’s not just me that’s experienced this. I sort of expect pain when wearing a new pair of heels, but thought I’d be ok with trainers!

I had this with some New Balance trainers! Huge blisters the first time I wore them, so wore them with plasters for about a month.

They softened up and stopped rubbing and they're so comfy now.

Plaster up and stick with it!

Will stock up on plasters and keep my fingers crossed they soften!

Agree with PP that they are style over comfort. Bought gazelles as a teen and it always felt like a bacon slicer rubbing was rubbing against the back of my heel, when I wore them. Vaseline helped a bit, but they really are the most uncomfortable footwear know to man.

DH bought me Gazelles for Christmas and they destroyed my ankles the first couple of wears but I perceived and now they are very comfortable. Socks are a must

Pandora1box · 07/05/2018 13:18

Persevered even!

Fleanne · 07/05/2018 15:41

Thanks everyone. I’ll try vaseline to see if that helps!

Strange! I wear both Gazelles and New Balance with no issues.

On a related note, if anyone has any hints and tips as to how to keep the pretty pink Gazelles clean I'd love to hear them. Mine now have filthy grey-coloured fronts where my kids keep standing on my feet....

goose1964 · 08/05/2018 09:28

I have this with most shoes. I usually wear them around the house for slowly increasing periods .

TantricTwist · 08/05/2018 10:24

Yes my gazelles used to rub badly too so I just never wore them when I was walking long distances.

They are fine now though but thats after a year or so.
The back bit is just that little bit too stiff and too high.

Mrs9C · 08/05/2018 11:09

Oh what a shame, they've never rubbed on me, I have a couple of pairs, and both great.

TheTroutofNoCraic · 08/05/2018 11:18

Rub a dry bar of soap on the inside of the heel...usually helps soften them

SallyCinnamon3009 · 08/05/2018 11:27

Had exactly the same thing happen a few years ago when wearing trainer socks with Gazelles. After a while they were fine

Fleanne · 08/05/2018 11:37

Thank you all for your messages. I called Adidas who were great - they said it might be a one-off quality issue so have offered to exchange them! I think I might play it safe with the new pair and try all the suggestions above to help wear them in Smile

I can’t wear Sketchers for this reason.

3stonedown · 08/05/2018 11:49

I have this with every pair of trainers I've ever had. They get better after about 4 wears
