Hello,

I need to replace my Chanel Vitalumiere (?) foundation.

I don't want to spend quite as much, and though I've loved it, it's recently been sitting in my skin a bit (I could have worse skin or the make up could be going off, though only 8 months old?)

Suggestions? I've previously used Bobbi Brown, and Dior. Dior also a bit ££. Are there any high street greats I should know about?

I like something that feels soft on, not too dewy, but not drying.... I've got blonde fuzzy facial hair that I don't really want to have to start removing (though my friend is raving about derma planing), but the Chanel - and probably foundation in general - seems to cling to it!

I know you've already used Dior and were looking for new ideas, but I finally found my holy grail of foundation this year with the Dior Forever Undercover foundation. Nothing else has compared to it for me. I was using a Bobbi Brown longwear one before that that felt like cement on my face. The Dior one lasts all day but feels so light and soft.

Super, thanks, I might have to give it a go!

High street wise I really like bourjois healthy mix serum. I keep coming back to it after experimenting with others. Shade wise it’s a bit limited though but I’ve found a shade that matches me.

BrightonCalling · 06/05/2018 14:55

I love LRP toleriane foundation. I use it as concealer or mix with moisturiser for full face

rosesandcashmere · 06/05/2018 15:00

Boots no7 stay perfect super light.
It’s very liquid but it’s beautiful! Just takes some getting used to. I go back to it always and I’m a Huge high end make up fan

PinguPaws · 06/05/2018 19:55

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation is an exact copy from the same company.
Used it myself, nice with no "orange face" after a few hours

Gorja · 06/05/2018 19:57

EDL double wear nude. Much nicer than the normal double wear.

It's not an exact copy. They're made by the same company, that's about all they have in common.

OP the problem with cheaper foundations is that you end up using more, so they're a false economy. I went from YSL to Bourjois after reading lots of hype about it being a CV dupe, but have gone back to a higher end product because Bourjois is just a bit, meh. I've gone to Lancome this time, after getting several samples to try the different brands. I use a third of the amount I did with the Bourjois and get a much softer, and more long lasting finish.

I've just bought (don't laugh!) Joan Collins foundation from M&S. I've been searching for something new since my favourite Dior foundation was discontinued. So far I really, really like it!

DragonNoodleCake · 06/05/2018 20:23

Boots instant radiance one! I recently found it and love it.

egdehsdrawkcab · 06/05/2018 23:25

Agreed, I definitely get more from a higher end brand - literally need a finger tip amount for coverage . Recently was tempted by a boots aqualight/ invisalight thing but it actually ends up quite drying.

I shall look at the Bourjpis vs Dior. Thank you!

If you're looking for something high street, I've always found Revlon colourstay foundation the best for my skin.

I used to love Estee Lauder make up but can't justify the price these days. Most of my stuff is Revlon or Loreal these days.

Ofthread · 07/05/2018 01:01

The boots one is a really good dupe for vitalumiere.

Mmmmmmmchips · 07/05/2018 01:17

Too Faced born this way (Debenhams) is nice
Makeup forever hd
The MAC Studio sculpt is nice - it’s quite a creamy one but avoid if oily - it’s also 40mls!
Try the Ordinary Serum foundation

egdehsdrawkcab · 07/05/2018 07:15

Hmmm and how exactly do you select the right shade if there's no assistant helping. Bourjois is tempting, but no idea which shade. Back of the hand?

OP posts:
PinguPaws · 07/05/2018 13:34

No, use the top of your hand as it is more exposed to daylight so more likely to match the colour on your face. Going back to Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation a lady at the Chanel make up counter told me they are basically the same foundation. Make Up Alley a brilliant site which consists of reviews by the general public voted it the best foundation for dry skin. Also check out the Boots website for more great reviews.
Colour wise, I'm quite pale skinned but use no. 52 Vanilla. It doesn't oxidise and turn orange after a few hours.

Jozxyqk · 07/05/2018 13:42

Lancome Teint Idole. Good for skin on the oily side, & fab range of shades. Most do not go pale enough or only have one pale shade, but this has cool & warm options even in the very palest.

cafune7 · 07/05/2018 14:55

Been using for 5 years now (jesus I feel old), urban decay naked skin (standard one not all nighter) and I wouldn't change it. I love it.

ThenCameTheFools · 07/05/2018 17:13

The new (available on Amazon only) L'Oreal Infallible Pro Glow is very nice. I am alternating with that, and Chanel Perfection Lumiere which I do like, but it's still not the HG. Must admit, even though she does my head in, I had a sample of Charlotte Tilbury Magic and thought "wow". Might treat myself to some but it's ££££s. Maybelline Dream Satin liquid is one I always repeat purchase but it's a bit thin.

I like the Bourjois but their shades are too yellow for me.

Lucked · 07/05/2018 20:30

I find the best way is to colour match it the foundation you currently use rather than your skin, so swatch them side by side - I tend to use my inner arm. I have heard a lot about healthy mix but the colours are a poor match for me.

PoppyBubbles · 07/05/2018 20:37

I second revlon colourstay, I am the lightest shade and I wear it everyday for work, doesn't budge and doesn't go a weird colour. I like to save my high end stuff for the weekends (and for the sake of my purseWink)
For colour matching Findation website is really good, you just put in the shades of brands you wear and it makes suggestions for you.

Revlon Colorstay is almost exactly the same as Estee Doublewear. Really good and much cheaper. Great staying power, loads of colors.

Mmmmmmmchips · 08/05/2018 15:19

If you are considering ELDW and can find a shade to suit you (and it’s in stock!) the Primark one in a rectangular squarish bottle is pretty much identical

Mmmmmmmchips · 08/05/2018 15:20

I don’t want that much coverage so I bought the Primark one in a round glass bottle with the dropper and it’s pretty much the same as the GA Luminous silk
