Foundation / tinted moisturiser /BB cream for dehydrated skin? Help!

Please, please help me find a new foundation or tinted moisturiser!

I'm 35 and have very dehydrated skin. I've found a cleanser/ serum / moisturiser routine that helps but the good work is undone once I put on foundation. It looks good initially but seems to end up sinking into my lines and pores and the effect is very ageing.

I've always used water-based products as oil-based ones feel greasy and bring me out in spots but I don't know if that's making things worse? I just want something lightweight for everyday to even out my complexion and texture, not a perfect finish. I live in southern Europe so don't want anything really heavy for the summer. I'm also very pale and anything in limited shades (e.g. some BB creams) is usually too orange for me.

The best products I've used are By Terry Sheer/Cover Expert foundations but they're v. pricey and the pale shades aren't a good match for me. YSL Touche Eclat looks great initially but seems to slide off my face within an hour. Chanel Aqua Lumiere and Perfection Lumiere Velvet sink into my lines and turn them into huge cracks (I think the alcohol high up the ingredient list might be the culprit).

Apologies for the massive moan, just feeling really fed up. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Recommended products, or ingredients to look for/avoid? Thanks.

What works for me is either Rosehip seed oil or Avene Trixera at night. Then during the day either Estée Lauder Double Wear Light or an LRP BB cream (which is more moisturising)

Boots No7 tinted moisturiser is really good

LeeMiller · 02/05/2018 14:57

Thanks for the suggestions trigger, I'll check them out. I've tried rosehip oil and wanted to love it but it didn't seem to do much for me. That was when I was living in the UK though so maye in a different climate the effect would differ. I think the skincare is less of an issue though, on days when I don't wear anything beyond suncream my skin looks plumper.

Thanks Brazzle, Boots have stopped delivering to where we are unfortunately but I'll check it out as it's something I could ask visitors to bring.

I’m in Spain and Boots stopped delivery here just as we moved :-( I like the LRP BB cream, my skin is fairly thirsty and I need minimal cream under this. The other thing I sometimes use is Dr Jart Colour Correcting Cream, it’s a greenish shade that changes to beige when you rub it in.

BagelGoesWalking · 02/05/2018 18:39

I prefer Marula oil over Rosehip. Thought I wouldn't as it's a bit thicker but it seems to sink in better.

Have you got a hydrating toner in your routine? That would help balance out your skin so foundation would go on better. Best ones are Korean/Japanese, like Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner (available from uk stockists), Etude House Soon Jung toner (eBay).

I am so cross about Boots Angry ! I used to get regular deliveries of stuff like vitamins (much pricier here) and Aussie shampoo.
I will look into the BB cream, thanks. Does it have much coverage? My main worry with BB creams is that the palest shades are often too dark, but I should be able to find LRP products in the pharmacy to test.
Never heard of Dr Jart but will investigate. Not sure it's my colour that needs correcting so much as my skin texture, but I guess everything helps!

Thanks Bagel , I've never heard of Marula oil but will look into it. I have to admit I didn't know there were toners that were specifically hydrating. Which order do you use the oil and the toner in, and could I still use a serum with them? I'm using a Vichy hydrating serum which has been life-changing and I'd be reluctant to give it up - on days when I go make up free it seems to keep my skin fairly well hydrated and comfortable. It's the foundation that's drying.

I use rosewater

You wouldn't have to give up anything! Hydrating toners are very different from the cleansing/astringent toners we're used to. Some good ones are Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner, Etude House Soon Jung Toner or Klairs Supple Preparation Toner (new unscented version). You can get from eBay or Yesstyle. You just pat on several layers on clean damp skin. You can use with your Vichy (which I assume is with Hyaluronic Acid?) I just fine they provide even more hydration than HA on its own.

You can get a Marula very cheaply from the Ordinary. A drop of two before moisturiser or mixed in with your moisturiser, esp at night.

I've read that No 7 B.B. creams are good and they do 3 diff ones for skin types. Otherwise, this one has been getting good feedback. It's called a primer but lots of ppl just use on its own like a B.B. cream. beautyandseoul.co.uk/products/heimish-artless-glow-base-spf-50-pa

Sorry, repeated myself with names of toners! Great username, btw.

LeeMiller · 02/05/2018 21:51

Thanks so much Bagel. Those toners and the oil sound really interesting. I can be a bit lazy with multiple skincare steps and get anxious about making changes in case I break out, but it sounds like I could just build them into my current routine.

Yes, LM is one of my heroes. Wish I looked like her too!

I used Superdrug DD cream which appears to be discontinued so I've switched to their BB cream. It's quite rich and moisturised my dry patches well

trigger2 · 03/05/2018 08:00

LeeMiller I’m not sure where you are but Primor in Spain has some of the Korean hydrating toners and essences. If you’re elsewhere I guess maybe larger derpartment stores a la Sephora might be a good bet.
I have the lightest LRP BB cream which is probably a little darker than my ‘normal’ foundation shade but it gives me a nice glow without looking orange, some of them are so dark

trigger2 · 03/05/2018 08:17

This is the one I have - www.cocooncenter.co.uk/la-roche-posay-hydreane-bb-cream-40ml/13675.html

It looks like this, this is taken inside -

LeeMiller · 03/05/2018 12:39

Thanks goose, I've never even heard of DD cream but it's very annoying when you're favourite products get discontinued. Superdrug don't ship to us but I'll make a list of Boots & Superdrug products to test next time I'm in the UK.

Thanks for the photos trigger , I'm paler than you but that cream doesn't look too dark or orangey. There's a local pharmacy with a good LRP selection so I'll see if I'm able to test it this weekend.
