It's there such a thing as a best hair brush?

I think my cheap, plastic number is breaking my hair. This never used to be an issue for me but my hair is prone to frizz and tangle now that it's so grey. So, I googled "best hair brush", decided my price range, and have purchased one for next day delivery. I am interested to know what other folks are choosing in a more up market brush.

I use the 'Wet' brush. Fantastic for sorting out the tangles and is very gentle.

Mason & Pearson mixed bristle brush is excellent and far better than any other brush my daughter and I have tried.

My Mum has always sworn by Mason Pearson, but I find that it makes my hair frizzy. I use a Kent Head Hog, I used to try different brushes, but now I just replace it with a new Head Hog every time it starts to show signs of wear or I lose it when travelling.

I’ve a Mason Pearson, which I’ve had and used for 30+ years. Because I’m old with longish hair, I have to treat it gently as possible. Yes, I think I do notice a difference when I’ve dragged a comb through it, in the car!

For brushing or blow drying?

wowfudge · 02/05/2018 13:37

I had this conversation with my hairdresser a couple of weeks ago. She recommended Cricket and Head Jog. I have thick hair and always liked Denman brushes when I wore it longer for hassle, and tangle, free brushing.

I'm another Mason Pearson fan! I use the mixed bristle one. I don't take it travelling with me anymore though, ever since losing one as a teenager. For wet wair, I use a ghd paddle brush. I also have various lovely wooden combs that glide through my hair so wonderfully... Cheap plastic brushes snag and I can hear my hair snap when I use them Sad

Thanks for the ideas here. I realise what ice bought might not be successful so I'm glad to hear of other ideas so as not to get my hopes up and stop looking if it doesn't help.

Luckingfuvely, it would hopefully do both. I don't tend to brush my hair except for blow drying and styling. I then use my fingers in the day.

I saw that wet brush jalopy. Might look into it more.

I found a small denman that I bought as a handbag brush and never used so I've got that until my new one arrives. I've ordered the Hershesons mixed bristle oval brush. Should come tomorrow!

Mason Pearson (now available on Allbeauty!) Ex Large pure bristle and pocket bristle. Both 15 years old and baby pink. Can't beat them.

HugMeBringItIn · 02/05/2018 21:36

Wet Brush. Got sick of Tangle Teezer not actually getting through the tangles so bought a Wet Brush on a whim one day and loved it so much I bought another.

Housewife2010 · 02/05/2018 21:56

I didn't think much of the tangle teaser or wetbrush. If you fancy a Mason Pearson it's worth signing up to escentual.com. They often have 25- 30 % off the site so it's worth waiting until then. I bought the pocket one first and loved it so much that I bought the large one too.

My daughter has a wet brush and it works great for her. Much better than the other tangle ones we have used.

princessbear80 · 02/05/2018 22:06

Another vote for wet brush!

milkysmum · 02/05/2018 22:07

Wet brush!

Doingreat · 03/05/2018 10:30

Watching with interest. Is using a comb bad for the hair? Can anyone advise on this?
I've always used a comb and now realise i should probably start using a brush. Are the mason Pearson brushes made of real animal hair? If so are any good vegan alternatives?

Luckingfovely · 03/05/2018 12:08

Really interesting the amount of votes for Wet Brush, will have to investigate.

Currently I use a tangle teaser when wet, which works for me, and have just bought one of these specifically for drying my very tricky hair, and an seriously impressed:

There's something about the way it dips in the middle which means it holds your hair much more securely and you don't lose bits of the ends of the brush which can then tend to go fluffy. I am finding my hair is much smoother and silkier dying with this.

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 03/05/2018 12:56

What’s a wetbrush?

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 06/05/2018 12:08

Ahh. I use a tangle teeter but very, very gently.

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 06/05/2018 12:09

Jesus! Teezer....Teezer
