Skincare and makeup for dry eczema prone skin

My skin is very dry and sensitive especially around the eyes. I get-break outs of dry flaky skin. I’m using Simple products aswell as Nivea and Estée Lauder DW make up. I realise EWDL isn’t the best for my type of skin.

Anyone have any tried and tested skincare and make up brands that I can try.

I’m going to start taking a fish oil supplement too.

What creams has your GP prescribed?

I know lots of people with eczema swear by Aveeno.

Estee Lauder DW is very drying maybe you could try a tinted moisturiser like Nars Tinted Moisturiser.

There are some threads recommending products. Type in eczema in the search thingy at the top of the page.

I found Double wear too drying but find the Double Wear Light much better. I like Avene Trixera balm (more of a lotion) and Rosehip seed oil. But if my skin is really flaring up then it’s a touch of Elidel only, no make up.

Same skin type. Used Aveeno for years as I thought that was the only thing that wouldn't irritate.

Last year, got Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner. It's a hydrating toner made specifically for people with atopic skin issues including eczema. Pat on a few drops to clean, damp skin. Repeat several layers. Helps to hydrate, soothe and balance.

Have since added more hydrating products, essences etc and my skin has improved no end. Much less irritated, skin looks brighter and SO much more comfortable. Highly recommend.

Cleanse with a cream or balm (Body Shop Camomile balm is good) - using damp cotton wool. Don't rinse with water.

Use a fragrance free moisturiser for dry skin - I'd rec Simple or Clinique or Body Shop Vit E. Try the cheapest before spending £££s.

On very dry patches try one of the Eucerin moisturisers. They're the only thing that works on my driest patches.

For exfoliation you could try Cliniques turnaround cream (wear overnight). Its the only 'cream' exfoliator I've found that doesn't aggravate my skin. I find wash off exfoliators just leave me with angry red patches, however gentle they allegedly are.

For foundation I've only ever got on with either Cliniques super moisturising one or No 7 Essentially natural.

Also look at which suncream you use - Aveeno or Eucerin are the only ones I've found that don't aggravate my skin.

Cleansers I can use are La Roche Posay Toleriane Dermo Cleanser or Avène Extremely Gentle Cleanser, as well as the Body Shop Camomile Balm Cleanser mentioned already.

I've just started using Altruist Sunscreen and it feels good, sinks in quickly and hasn't given me a reaction (which many do).

I don't use tap water on my face, so my cleanser is This Works Clean Skin 5 in 1 Water. I like Green Keratin oils, currently using Precious Cacay. Make up is Bare Minerals. Skin is extremely dry and sensitive - have had atopic eczema all my life - and think I've finally found the only products that don't make me flare up!

I second avoiding tap water, especially if you live in a hard water area such as London, Brighton, Norwich etc. I had permanent eczema living in London and what made the biggest difference rather than any creams or lotions was avoiding tap water (especially hot) and cleansing my face using mineral or distilled water.

Since moving abroad (not suggesting this as a solution!) although I still have dehydrated skin I've not needed my prescription cream in 5 years. Whenever I visit London I immediately notice the 'tight' feeling is back after a shower.

I can't advise much on products (have my own thread asking for help) but I'd recommend Eucerin Aquaporin rich as a good basic moisturiser foe eczema-prone skin.

Thanks everyone. Good advice here. Will start by withdrawing tap water and buying eucerin.

There's a new children's skincare range people with eczema are raving about. Farm something???

Sunflowersforever · 03/05/2018 07:41

This is it. Available at Boots, Morrison's etc. Very affordable.

I usually don't use any water on my face.
Im particularly sensitive with creams, soaps or suncream on my face
Sun cream green people children's range
Dr Hauszka rose cream moisturiser [ when I use a moisturiser] but often I leave my skin free to breathe.
A plain oil on my face such as Fushi rose oil is very good.

Go to a good health shop like Revital or if you are in London Whole Foods beauty department and test the different ranges. They will alway let you test - then wait 24 hours.
I usually get a tingling a little while after ways which lets me know it is going to aggravate my ski.

The organic or more natural ranges have less aggravating chemicals.

I use the face cream recommended by a Dermatologist years ago (Dermol 500) to wash my face and moisturise, Laura Mercier Radiance Primer, and Dr Hauschka powder or Bare Minerals powder.

I sometimes use a Lavera moisturiser and I do use La Roche Posay make up remover / cleanser. Luckily I live ooop north, so our water isn't so harsh.
