Shall I go for a "lob"?

I've got a hair appointment on Thursday and am thinking of going for a long bob. But will it be too "mumsy"? We all know about the infamous MN description of Mum Bob!!

It's currently longish and long layers but it just looks wispy. Therefore I thought one length with blunt cut ends would look better.

What do you think?

I'll attach a pic of me plus some pics of what I was considering. I'm 48 by the way.

I've no idea but I'm loving your facial hair.
Is it difficult to keep it trimmed neatly over your eyes? Grin

LOL

I like the last picture you posted but dislike the two pictures of the model in the Breton top - I think that style is unfashionable and mumsy. The main issue with a lob is the styling. If you have time, tools and expertise to get it looking like Olivia Palermo or Alexa Chung then go for it but if not then maybe ask your hairdresser for some recommendations of easy and quick to style looks that suit your face shape and hair type.

No. It’s so common place now and if you don’t have time to maintain it can look really scruffy.

MrsEricBana · 01/05/2018 21:18

I think yes. Lovely!

Yes that's the issue. I don't have time to maintain it.

Is there any chance you can post some pics of something a bit easier to maintain (bearing in mind I don't want to go too short)?

Long bangs/ fringe like Kate Middleton works for me.

squarecorners · 01/05/2018 22:05

No they take a lot of styling

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 01/05/2018 22:16

I have my hair like the last picture except I have a kind of side fringe. I find it easy to look after. It takes about 10 minutes to dry and another 10 to straighten but that's my hair type. I have it one length usually, if they put layers in it can look a bit like a Rachel.

I used to have my hair longer than yours but I love how quick it is to dry compared to then. Not sure if it's a mum bob but I do get compliments on my hair. I think the style with the shorter back is a bit frumpy and apparently there is a hairstyle called "I'd like to speak to your manager" which is a shorted version of that!

OliveOrTwist · 01/05/2018 22:21

Go for it. I did about 4 months ago and wish I'd done it sooner. Long hair can also look scruffy. Mine is so much neater now and far easier to maintain that my knotty horrible long hair.

shallihavealob · 01/05/2018 23:18

Thanks all for your suggestions. I will have a chat with the hairdresser and see what she says.

I have an unintentional lob at the moment in that my hair just seems to have stopped growing. It it thick and takes a while to dry but I think all longer hair does, doesn’t it.

I like your beard.

RoseWhiteTips · 02/05/2018 12:10

The face concealer is just odd.

The 'mum bob' jibe is a pile of crap. I saw a photo in a magazine recently of a charity fundraiser full of glamorous yummy mummy types. Most had long highlighted hair with layers. The one or two that had a bob stood out a mile as looking so much more stylish, sharper and younger. So I just don't think 'mum bob' is true - it is long streaky layers that are the go-to mum style.

So, having got that off my chest - go for it. My oldest DD has just had her long hair cut to her collar bone and it looks so much better. I have an asymmetric lob myself and I don't find it is hard to style. I think it would really suit your hair type.
