What would you wear for an 'informal visit' prior to a job application?

It's for a deputy head job which I'm meeting the head to chat about tomorrow.

I have no idea what to wear. I live in jeans but obviously this would be too informal. Yet I don't want to go all trussed up like it's an interview.

Any ideas?

I'd dress up like it's an interview.

I don't think you can go wrong by being overdressed.

lovelyjubilly · 01/05/2018 14:16

Ok! I'm rubbish at looking smart but I suppose I'll have something in my wardrobe that will be suitable!

Another vote for treat it like an interview no matter how informal they claim it is

lovelyjubilly · 01/05/2018 14:17

I had a baby 4 months ago so let's hope that I have something that fits! Grin

Trousers, smart top (I hate the word but a "blouse") and blazer/jacket. Its not an interview suit but it's still smart enough to be professional but not so ott that you look like The Accused.

LockedOutOfMN · 01/05/2018 14:21

I'd be formal. Maybe a long sleeved dress, or a shirt with a formal skirt or trousers. They will presumably take you on a tour of the school so wear shoes you can walk comfortably in and make sure your coat or jacket is smart and clean as you might wear that for the tour of the school has many different buildings / outside areas.

Does this dress look too informal?

I'd wear what you'd wear to work usually. Most informal visits for teaching posts are after school. Everyone I've ever walked around with had come from school/uni for nqt posts

StealthPolarBear · 01/05/2018 14:53

Yes far too informal sorry

lovelyjubilly · 01/05/2018 14:55

Okay, I'm off to the shops this evening then!
I'm going in at 9:30am tomorrow.

Yes, too informal for a prospective DH role. You need tailored dress, skirt or trousers, IMO.

squarecorners · 01/05/2018 15:40

When my mum was a deputy head I don't think she ever wore a skirt or a dress, but then again she was in a pru so I think it was in case she needed to restrain the kids! Grin

You should wear what you'd wear if you worked there- the chat is informal, not the school!

Redtartanshoes · 01/05/2018 15:51

Shift dress type thing and blazer
Or suit
If you can’t do the above fitted shirt and smart trousers.

There is no such thing as an informal interview. Ever.

AdaColeman · 01/05/2018 15:53

I'd wear something suitable as for an interview, because in effect that is what it is, it's another chance for them to assess you.

I agree the dress you pictured is too informal ~~ though it's lovely colour!

Lots of luck to you! Thanks

Thirtyrock39 · 01/05/2018 15:56

Definitely interview smart - 1st impressions and all that

DragonsAndCakes · 01/05/2018 15:59

I agree that you need to be jacket smart. The word informal is about the chat, not the dress code.

lovelyjubilly · 01/05/2018 21:39

This is the best I can do! Wish me luck!

Better. Love the shoes. Do you have a jacket?

StealthPolarBear · 01/05/2018 21:42

Good luck!

Dermymc · 01/05/2018 21:43

What do you normally wear to work? Surely you can wear that?

Jacket and tights with the pink dress would be ok. I think the skirt and t shirt is less formal.
