Non down padded jacket

I’m after a lightweight pack away jacket in navy. However I really want a synthetic one due to some of the practices involved in sourcing down/feathers. I’m 5’2” so a short boxy one is best. Any recommendations please.

Uniqlo?

Silverstreaks · 01/05/2018 09:57

George.

Lands End Promaloft

Lightweight, packs away in a pocket thing. However no hood.
However I love my Uniqlo lightweight jacket. It is really warm

Depends on your budget but Patagonia do several synthetic ones (e.g. nano puff). Also their down is ethically produced (but appreciate you may still want to avoid for other reasons).

People don't think enough about how their cheap clothing was produced. Look for 'Primaloft' filling. I have a Columbia jacket which packs away very small and has a disco lining (Omni-Heat) as an added bonus!

Fatface now do synthetic filling instead of using down

Blondielongie · 01/05/2018 15:25

I was going to suggest fatface. They've stopped doing down.

I have jackets from Noronna and Fjalraven. Got both in the summer sale a couple of years ago for 50% reduction.

Mountain warehouse have quite a few. I’ve got a navy one with pink zips which squashes pretty small.

North Face do a range called Thermoball

Uniqlo are down filled I believe

bingohandjob · 02/05/2018 05:31

Patagonia or Finisterre.

Alpkit

Gap & Next both had these with synthetic fillers when I was looking in November. They might be worth a look. Given your height you might be able to buy the 14/15/16 age coats from the Next kids range & save a few pounds.

Even Primark are doing them although I don't know how warm they are. I saw some in gorgeous colours in M&S yesterday.

bouncydog · 03/05/2018 05:04

Thanks everyone. Some great suggestions. I loved the colours of the M&S ones but they are filled with down and feathers.

If you are concerned about humane down production, Patagonia and Alpkit both use “Responsible Down”. It’s quite common amongst outdoor sports brands (rather than fashion led brands). It’s also a consideration that down lasts much, much longer than synthetic fillings. If you are looking at synthetic filings, then Patagonia use recycled plastics across the product range.
