How to correctly apply Estée Lauder Double Wear?

TrumpTrump · 01/05/2018 02:22

Hello,

I've finally given into the hype and bought EL DL. What is the best way to apply it? Usually I just apply foundation with my fingers, but I think I may need to be a bit more sophisticated for this one? I have a beauty blender, plus MAC foundation brush.

Any hints?

I use dw but do find it can be a bit heavy.
So... I use a lighter foundation all over. Then dw for the central zones and blend it out well. Works for me. I use a foundation brush.

I had the lady at the makeup counter apply it for me before I bought it so I could try it out. She applied it with a brush. I enquired whether I should purchase a brush for it as I usually use my fingers. She said if that is what I was comfortable with I should just continue. So I just use fingers and have never had a problem. I always found I get a more even coverage that way.

POPholditdown · 01/05/2018 03:19

I use a damp beauty blender for a lighter coverage or a brush for full.
Mainly use the BB though as it takes seconds!

RiskIt4Biscuit · 01/05/2018 06:49

I use a damp sponge (I use the real techniques version of the beautyblender) or a buffing brush (morphe m439 or real techniques expert face brush).

I've been wearing DW for a few years., I've tried a beauty blender and a brush but always go back to just using my fingers

smashyourglasses · 01/05/2018 10:52

Beauty Blender gives the best finish but drinks up the foundation more.

WhereAreWeNow · 01/05/2018 14:58

I use a damp beauty blender.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 01/05/2018 15:02

I use the Double Wear Nude Cushion stick foundation, so it's a lot lighter than the original. It goes on with a Real Techniques blender which is excellent. Often this is a tad damp. My sister informs me that it looks nice and even and she is v good and does tutorials on YouTube etc.

Another who uses a damp beauty blender. I don’t seem to use half as much this way as I do with my fingers and can get an amazing finish.

Ridingthegravytrain · 01/05/2018 15:04

I just use my fingers

Sometimes I mix in a bit of smashbox primer to thin it out a little

Neverseen · 01/05/2018 15:06

I just use my fingers, but you have to moisturise and prime before because it can be quite dry

12Nameymcnamechange · 01/05/2018 15:07

I have done all 3 🙈😂

Fingers - felt I had a heavier finish. Could just be personal though!

Beauty blender - used up loads more DW than other methods but I liked the finish.

Brush - currently my fave method, I use a primer which is still dewy on my face and that seems to keep it light, then go over any areas I want extra coverage on.

Lucked · 01/05/2018 15:08

I use fingers or a brush, I always feel I lose product when I use a beauty blender and DE is too expensive to wash away.

Luckingfovely · 01/05/2018 15:18

I've tried every option of applying with DW - don't use anything else, and like a pp I always find that fingers are best.

BUT I find you have to apply it over a good, moisturizing, very illuminating base/primer, and go lightly, only applying where you need it. This gives me great results.

There are loads out there, but the absolute best is Estée Lauder EE cream. I wear this on its own with a tan; but the rest of the year DW over the top of EE gives me the perfectly, brilliantly even and glowy skin I could possibly wish for.

Liquoricecomfit · 01/05/2018 17:51

I find most natural coverage is to lightly apply with a brush and then just add a little more with the brush wherever more cover is needed at the end.

Definately need to prep skin well first (your preferred combo of serum, moisturiser &/or primer)

Also, it dries super quick so apply in sections - one cheek, blend then move on to next cheek etc. This gives the most flattering finish as if you apply dots all over and then go back to blend it will already be setting and that's when you get a heavier finish.

Oh I’m so tempted to try this! I’m a total novice just starting to use a bit of makeup and have about 5 beauty box subscriptions which has been good for testing out new things.

But I haven’t got a good foundation as I just pick them up from supermarkets when I’m out and about because I’m scared of the beauty counters! I also picked one up from Mac when I was getting something for dd2 but the staff looked frighteningly made up and I felt too nervous to ask anyone for advice on colours so just picked up one that I thought would be okay.
It’s orange 🤦🏽‍♀️

Does the DW come in a large range of colours? I’m mixed race and I find some places can be quite limited!

As for application, haven’t used the DW obviously but I use a brush for the other ones and a beauty blender for the concealer. I like the brush because I feel like I can really work the cream all over and that it’s blended in properly.

Sorry for the thread hijack Blush

RavenLG · 01/05/2018 23:37

Another damp beauty blender but I’m a total troglodyte when it comes to make up so I have no idea what I’m doing 😂😂

POPholditdown · 02/05/2018 02:18

@CakeNinja they have a good shade range and the counters will (or atleast used to) give you a 10 day sample to try. The sample looks tiny, but you only need a small amount for decent coverage.

Start off by dotting small amounts around your face, and then blend. Some people dip the brush in (I used to) but this ends up with a thick or uneven finish.

smashyourglasses · 02/05/2018 07:09

I don't think anyone uses the Beautyblender dry Wink

CakeNinja · 02/05/2018 07:10

Thankyou POP - I might check it out this morning if I can find a localish counter. Oh god, I hate going to the bloody counters, I feel so inferior Grin
I do dot my face with my current foundations as I agree that dipping a brush I might end up with thicker patchy areas.
