Dress code for Waterside Inn. Elegantly smart...no idea what to wear.

Don't often post here as I feel I am neither instinctively stylish, nor particularly beautiful! However I need help! We are going to the Waterside Inn at the end of May and I have NO idea what I'm supposed to wear.
I don't like anything particularly clingy around my tummy as it's a wobbly old mess and looks out of proportion with the rest of my body really.
I would say I'm a 12 round the middle but a 10 everywhere else. 5'4ish.
Anything cinched in around the waist/high waisted seems to accentuate my tummy and makes me look about 6 months pregnant.
In my head I think a jump suit may be good, but I've yet to find one that doesn't make my middle look huge.
Budget can't be massive as building work is sucking the bank account dry.
I honestly have no idea where to start!

I went a couple years ago, I only remember what I was wearing because it was the best lunch I ever had.

I wore a burnt orange Nehru collar silk tunic, black linen trousers and flat shoes with pompoms on.
It was summer so I didn't wear a jacket.
If the weather is OK, they may offer you to sit outside on the river front for aperitifs so you might want a jacket/scarf.

There were other diners who hadn't made much of an effort, polo tops and T-shirts, but they may have been superyacht owners.

Enjoy it!

I should probably add then, something with a bit of give for all the yummy food I'll be eating!

Well, the portions aren't huge, but if you are doing the tasting menus you may be there for some time.

I would go for smart casual and comfortable. I don't remember it being a highlycharged people watching affair or intimidating at all. It's all about the food :)

Phew!! So maybe something like these... www.zara.com/uk/en/flowing-cropped-trousers-p07102150.html?v1=5564588&v2=1032507 might work with a loose, half tucked in smartish tshirt.
Wondering if kitten heels work with that length of trousers?

Oh, another thing I remember, when I walked out onto the terrace by the river we were shown through the kitchen and the floor was tiled. Gripped soles are good!
I wore leather soled boots in bibendum and almost slid over onto my arse!

Those trousers look nice, I could imagine certain kitten heels will look lovely with them, nice necklace, luxury t shirt, bobs your uncle!

!! They are leopard print heels - thanks..sounds like a possible solution. Thank goodness. Really appreciate the tips.

The Waterside is a relaxed place these days and anything goes ! Sunday lunch in the summer is full of jeans and cotton shirts .
Have a wonderful time . The best pudding I have ever eaten was there many years ago when Michel Snr was in charge . The highlight of the day was when he came out at the end of service and chatted to every table .

SpeckledyHen · 30/04/2018 18:57

Forgot to say that they park your car for you and have it ready when you leave , and hold the loo doors open for you which took me by surprise I must say !

happysunr1se · 30/04/2018 18:58

Im not qualified to give style tips (I wear tabi socks and flip flops regularly) but I can tell you that all the posh places I've been, no one is checking you out and sneering.
I'm jealous though, I'd love to go back there. If they have any kind of veloute with champagne and broad beans, that was the best of the best for me. yummy!

happysunr1se · 30/04/2018 18:59

Ooh, I just thought:after you've been why don't you share your experience on the food/recipes board? I would be interested for sure.

bobkate · 30/04/2018 19:04

Excellent. Thank you - have to say that's reassuring. Happy I'll certainly try to remember to report back on that board. And speckled I will make sure I clean the kids crap out the car then before we go! And maybe hoover out the dog hairs Grin

Have a great time!

headintheproverbial · 01/05/2018 07:21

FWIW - you'd be absolutely fine in smart jeans and a top. Don't stress!!

bobkate · 01/05/2018 14:02

Thank you Head - It was the wording of the dress code that stressed me out! I think the MIL would disown me if I turned up in jeans...seeing as that is my usual attire!! Good to know though, thank you!
