Dress for hen party, 2 weeks after surgery

I’m organising a hen party for my best friend in June. I’m 6 weeks pregnant after 3 miscarriages and if I get to 12 weeks this time I’ll need a surgery to try and prevent second trimester loss- will be like a c-section incision. If all goes well I’d be aiming to go for the hen dinner and leave early to go to bed!

I’m looking for a dress I could wear at 14 weeks, taking into account bloating and without a waistband that would be suitable? I’ll be trying to keep the pregnancy quiet until at least 18 weeks as I’m currently applying for new post at work, but think “gynae surgery” should cover it? I have a wedding (not the bride in questions) in July so ideally a dress I can wear to wedding too!

Usually a pear with narrow shoulders but 32F chest and enormous thighs. Size 14 usually.

Sounds like something empire line or with a high waist would be a good way to go.

Something like this?

How much do you want to spend? What sort of colours suit you?

Paranormalbouquet · 30/04/2018 09:38

That shape could work, not sure about the colour though. Love the fact that there's sleeves!

I've got very pale skin, grey eyes, dark hair so strong colours suit me best. Beige/pastels make me look like death.

Price isn't a big problem, happy to go up to £200 or so if I'll get to wear it a few times.

A wrap dress might work well too. Although this may be a bit short.

Good luck with everything btw.

Mint Velvet has lots of looser dresses. Here are a couple:

Thank you both, I find it hard as my usual go to shape is fit and flare- highlight waist, skim giant thighs! A wrap might be the way to go if I can find a non clingy one. I think one size up would probably be ok if it's not short?

Emerald green wrap dress

BigFatBloomers · 30/04/2018 10:06

Or tulips

Paranormalbouquet · 30/04/2018 10:10

They both look good, think I’ll have to try spend an afternoon shopping soon. Fingers crossed I get as far as needing the surgery at least!

Flowers

What do you think of this?

OP posts:
BigFatBloomers · 30/04/2018 11:22

That’s nice. I saw it but didn’t suggest it as not everyone likes spots. It seems quite a lot for viscose though.

They did have a lovely silk one but it has sold out.

Mulberrysilk · 30/04/2018 11:32

Phase Eight 1

Phase Eight 2

Paranormalbouquet · 30/04/2018 11:41

Oh I love spots! It is a lot for viscose but the colour and length look good. I might pop it in my basket and wait on inevitable discount code. If I fit Boden 12 on top/14 on bottom at the moment a 16 would probably be ok at 14 weeks?

OP posts:
Paranormalbouquet · 30/04/2018 11:42

@Mulberrysilk thank you but I can’t open those links?

OP posts:
BigFatBloomers · 30/04/2018 13:10

That sounds like a good plan.
I don’t think I was very big at 14 weeks but obviously people vary.

At least with the wrap it should be a bit adjustable.

Could you get both and see which fits better?

Paranormalbouquet · 30/04/2018 18:14

I could indeed, although as you say wrap means would be fairly adjustable.

Also, good luck with the surgery and the pregnancy. I hope all goes well for you!

Paranormalbouquet · 30/04/2018 21:32

Thank you! Not got much confidence in my body tbh but hoping for the best!

Jojo mama Bebe and precious little one do nice maternity dresses

Or if you feel like splashing the cash, red carpet ready in Lincolnshire are amazing - my friend got married we got the bridesmaids dresses there they have literally hundreds and we were treated like queens x

hipposinacircle · 30/04/2018 21:55

I have this in a couple of colours which I loved and felt very comfortable in at a couple of weddings post c-section.

All the very best of luck to you.

Paranormalbouquet · 30/04/2018 22:20

Thanks to both of you! I’m trying to avoid maternity dresses as want to avoid telling people, and maternity dresses tend to accentuate the bump. I’ll be ok with people thinking I’ve just got fat! Hippo that is lovely if a little short. Although as I’m fairly short it might be ok!
