How do I tone down permanent hair dye

I am a natural redhead with a tiny bit of grey coming through. Whilst getting a balayage the hairdresser covered the greying roots in what she assured me was my natural colour. It is not. It a a very dark red and looked horrible next to my skin. I’m reallly happy with the balayage but just don’t like these roots. What can I do? I’m hoping grit swine miracle cure? I’ve washed it 3 times since but it doesn’t seem to be fading.

I did say to her prior to doing it that I only wanted my roots done if it was my natural shade and there’d be no regrowthSad.

It'll probably settle after a couple of washes. Mine usually does. Some shampoos will help too, i think head and shoulders seems to strip colour.

I would go back to the hairdressers and demand she coloured all of your hair the same colour free of charge. I’m not really sure how you could lighten it in the meantime.
I hope it gets sorted.

I feel kind of awkward going back to the hairdresser as it was over 2 weeks ago now. And she did a great job with the balayage.

It will fade. Red dyes are hideous for being too dark. You have to choose really light strawberry blonde shades for it to come out looking auburn rather than reddish black. The hairdresser obviously isn’t that experienced :-/

In a week it will have calmed down.

My hairdresser told me that during his training, his teacher applied Head and Shoulders shampoo to a wall, and when they came back to it a few days later it had completely stripped the paint off. So he recommended using that regularly to fade your colour, as it won’t be as damaging as colour remover/bleach

Well I just washed it with neutrogena medicated shampoo as I thought that may work similarly to head and shoulders/vosene (and I happened to have it in the cupboard)- not sure if it’s the light but it does seem to have died down a bit. I’ll give another wash with that within a week. Hopefully it will calm it.

Baking soda mixed with antidandruff shampoo. Or vitamin c tablets made into a paste with water x

Colour B4 is pretty good at lifting colour out without bleach. Stinks of rotten eggs though

Head and shoulders original massaged into dry hair and then washed again in the shower works. I speak from bitter experience after a home dye went wrong.
