Make up for non wearers

I only moisturise, slap on some concealer and mascara and go.

DD is getting married next month and I feel I should make an effort.

Can anyone recommend a light coverage for my face? What should I buy?

Perhaps you could try bare minerals or similar?
My friend never wears makeup (she is in her 60's) but she got her make up done for her son's wedding (albeit by a beautician) using bare minerals and it was beautiful very natural.

Honestly I’d probably go for getting your makeup done professionally (they can still give a natural / neutral look that isn’t heavy). I only say that because you’ll probably be taking loads of photos that will be important in your family in the future, so it doesn’t seem like the best time to be experimenting. Imagine if it doesn’t photograph well or flashes back and you have to constantly see those photos everywhere

For wedding photography I would probably go with Giorgio Armani’s luminous silk. It’s medium - buildable coverage, and photographs beautifully. It doesn’t flash back either. It’s light enough that you could wear it to work/everyday without looking ‘cakey’

Also, as there will probably be professional photography at the wedding, you’ll probably need more then just foundation. Eg a blusher/bronzer to stop you from looking flat/off, powder to keep it in place and not shiny etc. More reason to just hire a makeup artist

I second getting it done professionally, or at least getting a lesson at those counters. Finding someone who can do truly ‘natural’ is hard though. I suspect they need a certain amount of time with you, to do their selling spiel, and true natural is quicker.

Ask them to recommend colours that suit you (rather than what’s trending), pick the more neutral ones. Steer clear of palettes of varied foundations- you don’t want contouring. I’ve also found that brown mascara (I’ve brown hair) suits me better than black, if I’m amping up the rest of the face.

A tinted moisturiser with a radiance primer underneath might be better if you don’t want the full look. Laura Mercier’s is meant to be good. I’d go to a Laura Mercier counter or Space NK if you have one nearby and ask them to try it on you before you commit to buying anything.

I'd go with tinted moisturiser, a matt bronzer and neutral shadow shades, a lip liner in a colour one shade darker than your natural lip colour, a lasting natural lipstick and a sheeny gloss on top.

Get your brows shaped and if they're fair use a brow mascara to define them. Avoid eyeliner - it's really hard to do well if you don't usually wear makeup.

Have fun at the wedding.

If you don’t plan on wearing it after the wedding it would be cheaper getting your make-up done professionally on the morning of the wedding though rather than buying products that you won’t use again.
