How to repair badly splitting nails?

Really hoping for some advice- I have terribly splitting nails as in this picture which have always been like this except when I have been pregnant and therefore must be due to some hormonal issue. I’ve tried supplements and paint on nail treatments but nothing works. Has anyone had similar and managed to cure them?

Almond oil rubbed in every day works wonders.

You need to keep them dry and moisturise the cuticles.

So keep nail varnish on them and use a good cuticle oil every day.

Do you find all nail varnish chips really quickly because of the peeling bits? I have the same. Just curious about the advice up keep varnish on from mouse as it always looks terrible on me even with oiling and moisturising daily, taking supplements and wearing gloves to wash the dishes, plus using fancy base and top coats - still doesn't last more than a few hours. Should we be wearing clear varnish all the time until they're in good enough condition to wear colour again?

It can take up to a year for your nails to grow out fully. Keep up with the clear polish. It might take a while but it should help.

Thanks! I've been at it for a few months but I'm now pretty sure it's the having to wash my hands all the time that's the problem. I stopped wearing any varnish so the oil and moisturiser and treatments could sink in but will try wearing it more.

The oil/treatment is for you cuticles, not your nails. Your nails will split if they get too wet because it starts to break down the fibers in the nail... If it gets really bad you can get a infection in the nails too.

So hands washed (use something like a good tea tree soap if you want to be really careful)
Push your cuticles back if needes
Nails painted with a couple of coats of good polish (don't use hardener because it's horrible for your nails)
Rub cuticles with a good quality oil. I like vit E but jojoba is great too.
