Hi! I'm looking for a top (or a dress if I can find one that looks good on me!!) that I can wear next weekend on a date night out to a restaurant with dh. We've been going through a real rough patch and aren't living together at the moment. We're trying to work on things by spending time as a couple (rather than as a family with the children as we always have done). I genuinely don't remember the last time we went out for a meal just the 2 of us.

I obviously want to look good! I've recently started to lose weight, and am a stone down. My current measurements are chest: 40", waist: 32" and hips: 43". That puts me somewhere between a 14 and a 16 depending on the brand. Budget isn't massive (£30-£40) and I'll probably wear it with slim jeans. It can't be tight around the tummy!

If anyone has any suggestions I'd be super grateful. I've had a browse around a couple of websites, and had a look on instagram for inspiration, but I need help!! Thank you!

I probably should've mentioned that I'm mid 30s!

Looks well cut

I really like that!! Haven't been on that website before. I always stick to the same ones I've been on since my early 20s (and I definitely cannot wear most of those styles anymore!!!). Thank you

That's a fantastic waist hip ratio, you sure you don't want to show it off?

MrsICantSayMyName · 29/04/2018 00:17

What about a v neck bodysuit floral , patterned/stretchy etc with some nice jeans

SmileAndNod · 29/04/2018 07:17

Have you looked at Pretty Kitty for dresses? They've some 1940s feel wiggle dresses which would look amazing with your figure.

Thank you for the lovely comments Smile I can't wait until I manage to get another stone (or 2) off as I've always been lucky with a smaller waist. I've just got the 'mum tum', which is starting to shrink but is still an area I'm very aware of.

The wiggle dresses are gorgeous - will definitely be investing once I can drop another dress size or 2.

Seriously you don't need to. The dresses prob look far better with curves! How about some sucky in pants / slip to make you feel better about your tummy?

Well done on losing weight though. I'm much bigger than I used to be and have just thrown most of my wardrobe out 😓. I am just too unhappy and lazy to shift the weight.

timeforgin1 · 29/04/2018 09:27

It's taken me a long time to be ready to shift the weight. My eldest is almost 5 and I've in the past couple of months decided that it's time. I think it takes time for your brain to catch up with weight loss so in my head I'm still in the 'obese' category with wobbly bits everywhere! I do still have a way to go, and when I've been slimmer in the past I've always kept my curves.
