Anyone here experienced with the curly girl method & would look at these ingredients for me?

I've posted on the fb group a couple of times but no responses :(

I'd like to know if this conditioner is ok - I don't think so because of the dimethicone but wanted someone to double check :)

No because of the dimethicone. You need to avoid all '....cone' ingredients, particularly so high up the list.

lucysmam · 28/04/2018 18:23

Thank-you; I thought so but just wanted to double check :)

This might be helpful for you

lucysmam · 28/04/2018 18:30

Definitely, @GummyGoddess , it's a minefield working out what I can and can't use...and it's not even for my hair, it's 8yo dd2 who has the curls. Thank-you, I shall take it to town with me on Tuesday and see what I can find :)

I use Olive Oil Palmers Co-Wash in mine and DD4s hair. It does have a silicone very low down in the ingredients list but is paraben & sulphate free and works really well on our fine curly hair. Contains keratin protein too.

I was hoping to find a co-wash to try with her, or a suitable (budget for the moment) conditioner to do the same job (unless I've mis-understood, this is ok?). I'll have a look for that in Superdrug and Boots.

She's very much not in love with her hair atm so hopefully a bit of tlc for it & she'll at least like it instead of moan about it a lot.

@lucysmam I have very curly mixed race hair. I use cantu co-wash. It's cheap, smells beautiful and works wonders. They do a lovely leave in that you can use after. I've used for a while now and my hair is in good condition.

lucysmam · 28/04/2018 20:00

Cantu seems popular on the CG fb page, I expected it to be expensive but haven't actually looked at it yet.

CaraDeanna · 28/04/2018 20:01

@lucysmam it's not expensive at all. Maybe a little more than a bottle of L'Oréal but much, much nicer!

lucysmam · 28/04/2018 20:06

I suppose it's because I'm used to a bottle if 80p Tesco's shampoo/conditioner for the three of us. Both girls are definitely developing their own preferences though.

I'm fairly sure I've seen it in Superdrug so will check on Tuesday.

These pictures might help. I haven't tried the Wilko and Superdrug conditioners, but I can recommend both the tesco ones.

I have the blue Tesco gel, it's very cheap and I think it's good!

tabulahrasa · 28/04/2018 20:47

I’ve used the Tesco conditioner as well, they were ok.

I’d avoid cantu unless she has very thick hair tbh, it’s all very heavy stuff.

lucysmam · 28/04/2018 21:51

tabulahrasa it's thick, but I'm not sure about very thick, like mine is. I had no idea about the Wilko fruits stuff tbh, or Tesco ones, I used to use those myself ages ago.

Label studying definitely seems the way to go.

CaraDeanna · 28/04/2018 22:56

I'd say you can use cantu on fine hair but there are definitely some products you'd best avoid (especially their cream leave ins!)

inappropriateraspberry · 29/04/2018 08:42

I read yesterday that Johnson's top to toe wash is cg friendly (sulfate free). Am going to have a look at the ingredients tomorrow!

tabulahrasa · 29/04/2018 09:14

Depends which version of curly girl you’re doing, if you’re going for full on proper curly girl, it’ll not be ok as you don’t wash with any soap type product even without sulfates.

GummyGoddess · 29/04/2018 10:16

Be careful with the hair gels, I need to avoid certain alcohols in them as they can be very drying. The cheap purple boots gel is OK for me as it isn't drying, I found the Tesco gel to be extremely drying sadly.
